Job summary

Waverley Council is seeking two dynamic Facilities Officers to manage day-to-day maintenance across a portfolio of Council facilities in Sydney's eastern suburbs. One 2-year fixed term contract and one permanent full-time role are available, offering variety, autonomy, and opportunities to make a visible impact on community spaces.

Qualifications

  • Vocational qualification (Cert IV or higher) in Facilities Management, Building and Construction, or related field.
  • 5 years’ experience in facilities maintenance or building operations, or in-job maintenance tasks (e.g., basic plumbing, electrical work, HVAC).
  • Strong knowledge of repairs and maintenance including HVAC, electrical and mechanical equipment.
  • Good knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations.
  • Strong organisation skills and ability to plan and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Proven customer service orientation.
  • Intermediate computer literacy across Microsoft Office and databases.
  • Commitment to OH&S, risk management and environmental protection.
  • Current Class C driving license.
  • Understanding of EEO principles.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and respond to day-to-day maintenance and repair requests across an allocated portfolio of Council facilities.
  • Conduct regular building inspections to identify maintenance, compliance, and safety issues.
  • Coordinate and supervise external contractors and trades, ensuring quality workmanship and value for money.
  • Raise, track, and close out work orders through Council's maintenance management system.
  • Ensure all facilities meet relevant building codes, WHS, and compliance standards.
  • Assist with planning and delivery of preventative and programmed maintenance works.
  • Manage minor works within delegated budget and authority.
  • Liaise with facility users and stakeholders on maintenance matters.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and contractor performance.
