Job summary

University of Technology Sydney (UTS) invites an experienced Facilities Manager to oversee the safe, sustainable operation of a diverse portfolio of university buildings, infrastructure and grounds in Sydney. Qualifications

  • 7+ years experience in Facilities Management and/or Project Management across large, complex portfolios
  • Experience developing, managing and monitoring budgets including forecasting and reporting
  • Experience delivering environmental sustainability initiatives to improve energy efficiency and reduce waste
  • Diploma in Facilities Management or related discipline, or sufficient relevant experience
  • Trade qualification and NSW White Card

About the Team

The Property Unit supports UTS by providing and maintaining safe, sustainable and effective learning, research and work environments across the University's property portfolio.

The team manages a diverse and complex property portfolio across multiple precincts and satellite facilities. It works collaboratively with faculties, divisions, service partners, contractors and consultants to deliver safe, sustainable, compliant and reliable facilities for staff, students and the wider UTS community.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and solutions driven Facilities Manager to oversee the safe, sustainable and efficient operation of a complex portfolio of university buildings, infrastructure and grounds. Reporting to the Senior Facilities Manager, you will coordinate planned and reactive maintenance, building engineering services, asset lifecycle activities and projects. You will balance immediate operational requirements with longer-term asset planning, ensuring facilities remain safe, compliant, cost-effective and fit for purpose. Working closely with internal stakeholders, contractors and service providers, you will also contribute to building optimisation and environmental initiatives that improve asset performance, reduce operating costs and support the University's strategic objectives.

About You

You are a collaborative and solutions-focused facilities professional who combines strong technical knowledge with sound judgement, commercial awareness and a customer-centred approach. You are confident managing complex operations, competing priorities, contractors and stakeholder expectations without compromising safety, quality or compliance. You take a proactive and strategic approach to maintenance, asset lifecycle planning, risk management and continuous improvement, and communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.

Skills and Knowledge
  • Demonstrated capability in planning, organising and coordinating operational activities, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex facilities-related issues.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement, consultation, facilitation and influencing skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, emerging risks and operational urgencies while maintaining quality and safety.
  • A strong customer service orientation and well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience developing, managing and monitoring operational and capital budgets.
  • Demonstrated leadership capability, including setting expectations, supervising work, coaching and supporting a high-performance and safety-focused culture.
  • Expertise in preventative and reactive maintenance strategy and planning.
  • Strong working knowledge of building systems, including HVAC, security, lifts, electrical distribution, fire protection and life safety systems.
  • Strong working knowledge of the National Construction Code, Annual Fire Safety Statements and relevant compliance frameworks.
  • Knowledge of Building Management Systems, asset management, sustainability frameworks, Energy Management Systems, Strategic Asset Management Plan (SAMP), project management, and safety and risk management principles.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and facilities management software.
Experience and Qualifications
  • Minimum seven years' experience in Facilities Management and/or Project Management, with responsibility for large, complex portfolios across multiple assets or sites.
  • Demonstrated experience developing, managing and monitoring budgets, including forecasting, cost control and reporting.
  • Experience planning and delivering environmental sustainability initiatives that improve energy efficiency, reduce waste and support responsible resource use.
  • A Diploma in Facilities Management, Engineering, Property, Project Management or a related discipline, or sufficient relevant experience.
  • A trade qualification and NSW White Card.
What We Offer

Base Salary Range: $140,965 - $143,080 plus 17% superannuation.

This is a full-time continuing position.
