Job summary

ASC is Australia’s submarine company delivering critical capability for national security. We seek a Senior Governance Engineer to develop and enhance governance across conventional and future submarine programs, reporting to the Technical Governance Manager and coordinating with engineering, quality, assurance and program teams.

You will translate complex requirements into practical governance solutions, drive risk-informed decisions and strengthen technical integrity while supporting

  • Develop, implement and continuously improve governance frameworks, policies, standards and processes.
  • Translate regulatory, contractual and technical requirements into practical governance solutions.
  • Provide expert advice on governance, assurance, compliance and risk management.
  • Conduct governance reviews, assurance activities and audits to monitor effectiveness.
  • Support governance integration across engineering, quality, safety and program functions.
  • Build relationships with internal stakeholders, defence partners, regulators and industry experts.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives strengthening engineering performance and capability.

About the Opportunity

As a senior Governance Engineer, you will play a key role in developing and enhancing the technical governance framework that supports Australia's conventional, and future nuclear-powered submarine programs.

Reporting to the Technical Governance Manager, you will build strong internal and external stakeholder relationships and work across engineering, quality, assurance and program teams to strengthen technical integrity, engineering assurance, compliance and risk-informed decision making. You will translate complex legislative, regulatory, contractual and technical requirements into practical governance solutions that enable safe, compliant and effective engineering outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement and continuously improve engineering governance frameworks, policies, standards and processes.
  • Translate regulatory, contractual and technical requirements into practical and scalable governance solutions.
  • Provide expert advice on technical governance, engineering assurance, compliance and risk management.
  • Conduct governance reviews, assurance activities and audits to monitor effectiveness and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Support governance integration across engineering, quality, safety and program functions.
  • Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, defence partners, regulators and industry experts.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen engineering performance, technical integrity and organisational capability.

About You

You are an experienced engineer with a passion for technical excellence, governance and organisational performance.

You bring:

  • Degree qualifications in Engineering or equivalent industry experience.
  • 10+ years' experience in defence, naval, oil and gas, aerospace, nuclear or other highly regulated industries.
  • Experience developing and improving governance frameworks, engineering management systems, standards or assurance processes.
  • Strong understanding of technical risk management, compliance, engineering assurance and technical authority systems.
  • Ability to translate complex requirements into practical business solutions.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and influencing skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication capability.
  • A continuous improvement mindset and commitment to engineering excellence.

This role requires a current National Police Clearance, an Australian Defence Security Clearance and an ability to access protected US defence technology. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearances and approvals.
