Job summary

Boart Longyear is seeking a Driller Assistant to join our Underground team in Perth. You will support safe, efficient drilling operations, perform labor duties under a Driller or Supervisor, and contribute to a strong safety culture.

The role offers flights to the nearest international airport, accommodation where needed, and 2:1 or 2:2 rosters. We value hands-on, physically capable individuals with a valid Manual C Class licence and NZ residency.

Qualifications

• Hands-on, physically demanding role experience preferred.
• Offsiding experience preferred.
• NZ resident required.
• Valid Manual C Class Driver’s Licence.
• Ability to pass a comprehensive pre-employment medical and drug/alcohol screen.
• Right to work in Australia.
• Commitment to safety and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Support safe and efficient operations on a drilling rig.
• Follow EHS policies and procedures and conduct risk controls.
• Load/unload drilling equipment and materials; assist in rigging up/down.
• Handle rods and drilling tools; collect samples; maintain tools.
• Perform pre-start checks and refuel vehicles.

Due to our expanding operations, our Underground division are looking for experienced Driller Assistants. If successful, flights to & from your closest international airport and any accommodation in Perth will be covered. We have 2:1 and 2:2 rosters on offer.

What does a Driller Assistant do?

As a Driller Assistant, you are a valued team member supporting the safe and efficient operations on a drilling rig. Your duties can include:

• Working under the direction of a Driller or Drilling Supervisor undertaking various labor duties
• Working safely and following EHS policies and procedures and conduct local risk control
• Loading and unloading of drilling equipment and materials. Assist in rigging up/down and moving to new drill locations.
• Handle rods and drilling tools, collect and handle samples, mix drilling fluids, carry out basic maintenance of tools and equipment, complete pre-start checks, and refuel vehicles

A Few Things We’re Looking For

• Previous experience working in a hands‑on, physically demanding role.
• Previous offsiding experience
• Resident of NZ (essential)
• Current Manual C Class Driver’s Licence
• NZ Police Clearance or Australian Federal Police Clearance (or ability to provide one)
• Ability to pass a comprehensive pre‑employment medical, including a drug and alcohol screen
• Physical ability to lift 30kgs repetitively in a labour‑intensive role
• Right to work in Australia
• Demonstrated personal commitment to safety
• A commitment to being part of a respectful workplace and work as part of a team.
