Job summary

ElectraNet Pty Ltd is seeking a Senior Automation Engineer in Adelaide to design, integrate and commission Substation Automation systems that underpin the reliability and intelligence of the transmission network.

You will work with Asset Management, Operations, Project Delivery and Telecommunications, driving engineering excellence and mentoring others across major energy projects in South Australia.

Qualifications

• 6–10 years in design, integration, testing or commissioning of SCADA and Substation Automation Systems.
• Strong knowledge of IEC 61850, DNP3 and substation networks.
• Experience with Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs) and remote engineering access.

Responsibilities

• Develop, integrate and commission Substation Automation Systems.
• Lead engineering standards and mentor engineers on complex programs.

The Opportunity

Role

You’ll play a key role in the development, design, integration and commissioning of Substation Automation Systems that underpin the reliability, security and intelligence of our transmission network. In this full-time role based in Adelaide, South Australia, you’ll have the opportunity to work alongside specialists across Asset Management, Operations, Project Delivery and Telecommunications, you'll help deliver solutions involving:

• SCADA and Substation Automation Systems
• IEC 61850 and DNP3 communications
• Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs)
• Digital substation technologies
• Remote engineering access and system integration
• Network monitoring and control systems
• Automation design reviews, commissioning and validation

About You

We're looking for engineers who are passionate about solving complex technical challenges and want to play a meaningful role in the future of South Australia's electricity network.

To be successful, you'll bring a combination of technical expertise, industry knowledge and a collaborative approach to engineering, including:

• Approximately 6 to 10 years of experience in the design, integration, testing or commissioning of SCADA and Substation Automation Systems.
• Strong knowledge of IEC 61850, DNP3 and substation communication networks.
• Experience working with Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs), control systems, remote engineering access and network interfaces.
• A sound understanding of high voltage transmission or distribution networks, power system fundamentals, and the critical role automation systems play in maintaining safe, reliable and resilient network operations.
• You are a qualified engineer with a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering (or a related discipline), together with membership of Engineers Australia or eligibility to obtain membership. Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of electricity industry standards, regulatory frameworks and market requirements, including the National Electricity Rules and AEMO operating environment.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering, operations, asset management and project delivery teams.

For our Senior Automation Engineer opportunities, you'll also bring proven experience providing technical leadership, mentoring and developing engineers, influencing engineering standards, and driving best-practice outcomes across complex programs of work.
