Job summary

Downer is seeking a Technician / Experienced Operator to support the South East Water network from Dandenong South, VIC. This permanent full‑time role offers hands-on work across water and wastewater assets, with a rotating 24/7 roster and on-call requirements.

You will operate equipment, perform fault responses and planned maintenance with a skilled team. A safety‑focused culture and strong communication are essential for success in this role.

Qualifications

• Experience in civil construction, water or wastewater maintenance.
• Outdoor work, operate equipment safely and deliver quality field work.
• Strong team player with good communication; available for after-hours.
• Current Driver's Licence and MR Licence; Spotter Ticket and White Card.
• Pre-employment checks including Working with Children Check.

Responsibilities

• Operate equipment and support maintenance across the SEW network.
• Respond to network faults and emergency call-outs.
• Carry out planned maintenance and repairs.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Join our team as a Technician / Experienced Operator working across the South East Water (SEW) network based in Dandenong South, VIC.
If you enjoy hands-on work, operating equipment, solving problems and being part of a reliable crew, this is an opportunity to put your skills to work in a role that genuinely makes a difference.
Working across a busy 24/7 maintenance contract, you'll play a key role in keeping water and wastewater assets operating safely and efficiently. From responding to network faults and emergency call-outs to carrying out planned maintenance works, no two days are the same.
You’ll work with experienced field crews across a variety of maintenance activities, including excavation, repairs, equipment operation and emergency response works. Whether you are operating machinery, attending network faults or helping restore services to customers, you'll be part of a team that keeps essential infrastructure running.
This role suits experienced operators and technicians who enjoy practical work, take pride in doing the job right and value working within a safety-focused team environment.
This role requires flexibility to participate in rotating shifts and an on-call roster to support emergency response and after-hours maintenance activities.

ABOUT YOU

• Experienced Operator: Previous experience in civil construction, water or wastewater reticulation, maintenance, excavation or utility operations.
• Hands-On & Safety Focused: Comfortable working outdoors, operating equipment safely and delivering quality work in the field.
• Reliable Team Player: You communicate well, work effectively within a crew and are willing to support after-hours and emergency response activities when required.
• Current Driver's Licence and/or MR Licence
• Spotter Ticket
• White Card
• Working with Children Check
• Excavator and/or Backhoe Ticket
• Pre-Employment Checks: Full Australian working rights and the ability to complete a pre-employment medical, licence checks and Working with Children Check requirements.
