Job summary

Onterris in NSW seeks an experienced ecologist, ideally specialising in botany, to join our Ecology team. You will manage ecological projects, lead flora and fauna surveys across NSW, and provide practical ecological advice to support planning and approvals.

You will mentor junior ecologists, prepare high-quality reports, and build strong client relationships while navigating NSW legislation, policy and approval pathways.

Qualifications

  • 4-7 years of relevant ecology consulting experience in NSW.
  • Tertiary qualification in Ecology/Environmental Science/Environmental Management.
  • Strong knowledge and experience conducting flora and fauna surveys.
  • Experience with GIS desktop software (ArcGIS or QGIS) and data collection tools.
  • BAM accreditation highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Managing ecological projects from planning through to delivery, including budgets, programs and client expectations.
  • Leading flora and fauna surveys on complex projects across NSW.
  • Providing practical ecological advice to support planning, approvals and environmental management.
  • Building and maintaining client and stakeholder relationships.
  • Preparing high-quality technical reports and ecological assessments with knowledge of NSW legislation.
  • Mentoring junior ecologists with technical guidance and field leadership.

We are seeking a NSW based, experienced ecologists, ideally specialising in botany to join our Ecology team, working out of one of our thriving NSW offices.

This role will be responsible for a full range of activities including:

  • Managing ecological projects from planning through to delivery, including budgets, programs, resourcing and client expectations
  • Leading and coordinating flora and fauna surveys, including on complex projects and challenging sites across NSW
  • Providing practical ecological advice to support planning, approvals, environmental management and project delivery
  • Building strong client and stakeholder relationships
  • Preparing high-quality technical reports and ecological assessments, with a strong understanding of NSW legislation, policy and approval pathways
  • Supporting and mentoring junior ecologists, providing technical guidance, field leadership and opportunities for professional development
Your Expertise And Skills

  • 4-7 years of relevant consulting experience in ecology, predominately in the NSW region
  • Tertiary qualification from a recognised institute in Ecology/ Environmental Science/ Environmental Management or similar disciplines
  • Strong knowledge and experience conducting flora and fauna surveys
  • Experience with GIS desktop software such as ESRI, ArcGIS or QGIS and data collection packages ArcGIS Fieldmap and Survey123 favourable
  • Biodiversity Assessment Method (BAM) accreditation highly desirable
