Ecological Solutions Limited – Central Coast NSW
Ecological Solutions is a boutique ecological consultancy based on the NSW Central Coast, but working across NSW. We help public and private clients understand and navigate the biodiversity side of their projects, flagging the risks and the opportunities early and navigating them as required, and we do it in some of the best parts of the state. A year in, the work is growing faster than one ecologist can deliver, so we're hiring our first.
It's a clear spring morning and you're out on a site at first light, to hear and observe the dawn chorus and to get stuck in before the heat of the day sets in. By early afternoon you're back at your desk, turning the morning's plots into a BDAR that Council's Ecologist will read. The client rings with a change to the footprint. You take it in your stride.
If that sounds like a good day, keep reading.
You'd rather get the survey right than get it done fast, but you know every job has a budget and a deadline, and you deliver quality work within both. You take pride in what you put your name to, because your work is a reflection of you. You're easy to work with when the day doesn't go to plan, you don't wait to be told before you act, and you're as comfortable in the bush as you are in a team or on the phone to a client.
You're a few years into your career and ready for more: work that matters, a supportive environment and team that will back you, and a real say in how a business is built and shaped. You can see yourself leading in this space one day. Being one of many in a big consultancy doesn't float your boat.
This is a chance to join early, help build a tight-knit team you want to be part of, and shape how the business works and where it heads. As the business grows, so does the role, into project leadership, client relationships and mentoring the people who join after you.
No two days are the same. You'll deliver field surveys and technical reporting for projects across NSW, working closely with the Principal Ecologist and clients, alongside planners, engineers and other specialist consultants.
A typical week may include flora and fauna surveys, targeted threatened species surveys, BAM plots, GIS mapping and report writing. The work includes contributing to BDARs, BSAs, Flora and Fauna Assessments, Reviews of Environmental Factors, Vegetation and Biodiversity Management Plans, as well as pre-clearing surveys and fauna handling as required. The role will include local and regional travel including occasional night and/or early morning surveys (target species dependent).
You'll also help build and shape the role itself, alongside a growing team, with as much room to grow as you want to take.
Beneficial, not required: BAM Accreditation, fauna handling experience, a White Card and a current First Aid certificate.
See the position description attached below for further information about this role.
