Job summary

Balance and Bloom Bookkeeping Pty Ltd on the Mornington Peninsula is seeking a Senior Bookkeeper to own a client portfolio, deliver BAS/IAS lodgements, and support business relationships. You will manage BAS/compliance work end-to-end and act as a reliable resource when the Director is away.

The ideal candidate has extensive Xero experience, strong payroll knowledge, and a proactive, accountable mindset to drive accurate outcomes for diverse clients.

Qualifications

• 5+ years bookkeeping experience in BAS agent practice.
• Extensive Xero experience; Xero certification highly regarded.
• Knowledge of Australian payroll, STP, superannuation, Fair Work.
• Registered BAS Agent or eligible to register.
• Cert IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping or higher.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review BAS and IAS for a diverse client base, ensuring accuracy and on-time lodgement.
• Complete the full range of BAS agent compliance work, including GST, PAYG withholding, STP, superannuation, TPAR, Portable Long Service Leave Lodgements, Workcover and fuel tax credits.
• Process payroll and manage STP finalisation and super obligations.
• Reconcile bank, clearing, loan and payroll liability accounts, and resolve complex discrepancies.
• Work across multiple client files each day, managing competing deadlines independently.
• Be the main point of contact for your clients, building strong, trusted relationships.
• Review work prepared by team members and support their development.
• Step up to assist in leading the practice during the Director's absence, managing workflow, clients and the team.

4 day per week role with the opportunity to move to Full Time.

About us

We are a qualified, registered BAS Agent practice based on the Mornington Peninsula. We look after more than 100 small and medium businesses across bookkeeping, payroll, BAS/IAS lodgements and ongoing compliance. We're a dedicated Xero practice: every client file we manage is in Xero, so you'll be working in one platform day in, day out. Our local team works alongside offshore support staff, and we pride ourselves on accurate work, reliable deadlines and genuine client relationships.

The role

We're looking for an experienced Senior Bookkeeper who can take real ownership. You'll manage your own portfolio of client files, assist to deliver BAS and compliance work from start to finish, and be someone the business relies on when the Director is on leave. This role suits someone who treats the business as if it were their own. Someone who is proactive, accountable and confident making decisions.

What you'll do

About you

• At least 5 years' bookkeeping experience, ideally within a registered BAS agent practice or multi-client environment
• Extensive, hands-on Xero experience, as we work exclusively in Xero (Xero certification highly regarded)
• Strong, demonstrated experience preparing BAS and handling all associated compliance
• Solid working knowledge of Australian payroll, STP, superannuation and Fair Work requirements
• Highly organised, able to work autonomously and juggle a number of client files in a day
• Confident client manager with excellent written and verbal communication
• A natural leader who takes initiative and accountability
• Registered BAS Agent, or eligible to register, highly regarded
• Cert IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping or higher qualification
