Job summary

The Department for Education, Children and Young People seeks a Director to oversee custodial youth justice services at Ashley Youth Detention Centre, guiding safety, wellbeing and rights of young people, while leading strategic reforms and educational activities during a major facility transition.

You will coordinate external stakeholders, drive best-practice implementations, and ensure a modern, fit-for-purpose facility in line with Inquiry recommendations and reformBlueprint initiatives.

Qualifications

• Current Tasmanian Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (RWVP) with a registration Status – Employment
• Pre-employment checks including conviction checks for violence, sex offences, serious drug offences, dishonest offences and serious traffic offences
• Disciplinary actions in previous employment check
• A tertiary qualification in Criminology, Law, Human Services or a related discipline.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the delivery of custodial youth justice services upholding safety, wellbeing and rights of young people in youth detention.
• Provide leadership in planning, implementation and management of strategic reform programs and educational activities at Ashley Youth Detention Centre.
• Manage external stakeholders and onsite visits during a period of heightened scrutiny and public interest.

Tertiary qualification in Criminology, Law, Human Services or related discipline
