Job summary

City of Canterbury Bankstown seeks an accomplished Director of Community Services to lead diverse city services, ensure high quality libraries, leisure facilities and customer experience, and drive culture and performance improvements. You will report to the CEO, manage four managers and around 664 staff across a broad portfolio, shaping an inclusive, high‑performing public service.

You will navigate complex stakeholder networks and develop major infrastructure, service transitions and workforce

Qualifications

• Substantial executive leadership experience in a complex, community-facing environment.
• Track record of strengthening workplace culture and developing managers.
• Experience overseeing major service or facility transitions.
• Sound commercial and financial judgement with equity and public value.
• Credibility with elected representatives and complex stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead community and cultural services; libraries, children’s services, leisure, aquatics, recreation, and customer experience.
• Oversee major service transitions and facility projects.
• Guide strategic workforce development and performance improvement.
• Cultivate relationships with residents, community organisations and elected representatives.
