Job summary

Clifton Productions is seeking a mid-level Drafter to join our Melbourne team. You will design and draw innovative event structures for national or global deployments, under the guidance of the National Drafting Manager.

Training and ongoing support are provided. You will produce drawings that comply with customer specifications, liaise with production and fabrication teams, and occasionally engage with clients to clarify requirements.

• Experience with AutoCAD for 2D and 3D modelling.
• Strong problem solving and design skills for practical structures.
• Ability to manage time and meet strict deadlines.
• Excellent listening, written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare drawings and technical plans meeting customer specs, BCA standards, and internal drafting guidelines.
• Coordinate with production, operations and fabrication to ensure buildable structures and efficient stock use.
• Interact with customers to clarify requirements as needed.
• Take periodic site visits to understand events and structures being designed.
• Familiarise with equipment by visiting the warehouse; manage documents.

Job description

The Drafter role is an intermediate level position, reporting to the National Drafting Manager and management staff in the Melbourne office. As part of the Drafting and Design Team based at the Sydney facility in Warwick Farm, you will be designing and drawing innovative structures for events held nationally and globally. Training and on-going guidance are provided.

Key responsibilities

• Preparing drawings and technical plans that comply with customer specifications, BCA standards, and business drafting guidelines
• Liaising with the production, operations, and fabrication teams to ensure structures are practical to build and make the most of equipment in stock
• Occasionally interfacing with customers to clarify their requirements
• Attending site periodically to gain a feel for the event and structures being designed
• Visiting the warehouse to familiarise yourself with the equipment being drawn
• Document preparation and document management
• Assisting with general business and office activities, as directed

About you

• Experience in AutoCAD for 2D and 3D modelling
• A flair for calculations and problem solving, with a passion for designing innovative practical structures
• Sound time management skills and the ability to work accurately while adhering to strict deadlines
• Exceptional communication skills - listening, written and verbal
• Ability to learn quickly and to work autonomously and as part of a team
• A 'can do' attitude, good attention to detail and pride in your work
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) and Google Chrome, with knowledge of Dropbox and Adobe Acrobat
• Australian Citizenship or Permanent Residency, with a valid working visa and Tax File Number
