Job summary

Design & Build Recruitment in Sydney is seeking an Estimator – Commercial Joinery to manage the pricing of bespoke joinery projects across government, medical, education, and corporate office sectors. You will review drawings, prepare take-offs, and calculate material and labour costs for accurate project estimates.

• Strong understanding of commercial project costs, material requirements, manufacturing processes, and interpreting architectural drawings and technical specifications.

Responsibilities

• Manage the estimating process for bespoke commercial joinery projects, including reviewing drawings, take-offs, costs, and producing estimates.
• Review architectural drawings, specifications, and project scopes to identify risks and capture all joinery requirements.
• Liaise with suppliers, subcontractors, internal manufacturing teams, and installers to confirm pricing, material requirements, production costs, and installation allowances.
• Work with the Estimating Manager, Business Development Manager, and operations team to assess opportunities, prepare quotations, and support project delivery.
• Maintain accurate costings, job reporting, and estimating records while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

A well-established commercial joinery business is continuing to expand as its workload increases across Sydney and interstate markets. With over 20 years of industry experience, the business specialises exclusively in commercial joinery, manufacturing bespoke joinery solutions for government, medical, education, and corporate office projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the estimating process for bespoke commercial joinery projects, including reviewing drawings, preparing take-offs, calculating material and labour costs, and producing accurate project estimates.
• Review architectural drawings, specifications, and project scopes to identify potential risks, assess buildability, and ensure all joinery requirements are captured accurately.
• Liaise with suppliers, subcontractors, internal manufacturing teams, and installers to confirm pricing, material requirements, production costs, and installation allowances.
• Work closely with the Estimating Manager, Business Development Manager, and wider operations team to assess upcoming opportunities, prepare quotations, and support successful project delivery.
• Maintain accurate costings, job reporting, and estimating records while managing competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment where every project is different.

About You / Requirements

• Previous experience in estimating within the commercial construction or commercial joinery sector.
• Ideally 1–2+ years' estimating experience, with the ability to work independently and take ownership of pricing responsibilities.
• Commercial joinery experience is highly regarded, particularly across government, medical, education, corporate office, and workplace projects.
• Strong understanding of commercial project costs, material requirements, manufacturing processes, and interpreting architectural drawings and technical specifications.
• Confident communicator with strong attention to detail, commercial awareness, and the ability to manage pricing discussions, address challenges, and stand by estimating decisions.
• Highly organised, proactive, and comfortable working in a busy environment where accuracy, accountability, and efficient communication are essential.
