Hutchies in Toowoomba is seeking an experienced Estimator to join our hard-working team on a full-time permanent basis. You will lead tender submissions and provide cost estimates across diverse Queensland projects, with a focus on accuracy and collaboration.

The role involves developing scopes for subcontractors, pricing reviews, and contributing to project teams with detailed documentation and BOQs at contract start. A strong team player with initiative is essential.

Qualifications

  • 4–5 years’ experience in a similar Estimator role or extensive long-term trade experience.
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of market conditions, construction techniques, and industry standards.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and take initiative and accountability.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation and submission of tenders working with the project manager and design managers.
  • Estimate project quantities and costs for major tenders in a timely and cost-effective basis.
  • Develop scopes of works for subcontractors and complete detailed trade price reviews.
  • Monitor current competitive prices, new techniques, and cost trends.
  • Respond to post tender clarifications.
  • Supervise and develop junior estimators, cadets, submission manager and pre-construction manager.
  • Provide technical inputs at a project level to assist with variations submission and assessment.
  • Supply project teams with clear documentation and BOQs at contract commencement; assist in allocating the BOQ for costing.

As an Estimator, your responsibilities will include:

  • Lead the preparation and submission of tenders working in consultation with the team’s project manager and design managers
  • Estimate project quantities and costs in the preparation of major tenders on a timely and cost-effective basis
  • Develop scopes of works for subcontractors and complete detailed trade price reviews
  • Monitor current competitive prices, new techniques, and cost trends
  • Respond to post tender clarifications
  • Supervise and develop support company members, such as junior estimators, cadets, submission manager and pre construction manager
  • Provide technical inputs at a project level to assist project teams in submission and assessment of variations
  • Supply project teams with clear, concise documentation and BOQ’s at contract commencement. Assist in allocating the Bill of Quantities for costing purposes
  • Assist project teams in the financial administration of contractors

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in the respective field for this role
  • 4–5 years’ experience in a similar role, or extensive long term trade experience
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong knowledge of market conditions, construction techniques, and industry standards
  • Ability to work in a team environment and have initiative and accountability when working independentlyStrong relationship building with all relevant stakeholders
  • A down-to-earth, fun, friendly and professional approach to your work
  • Industry leading experience in preparing submissions and methodologies
  • Experience with Cost X and Microsoft suite
