Job summary

Monadelphous is seeking an Estimator for our Capel team, offering a Mon-Fri role in a stable, regional workplace in the South West. You will interpret structural steel and fabrication drawings, prepare accurate estimates, and contribute to tender submissions with a focus on quality and risk management.

The successful candidate will have strong drawing interpretation skills, fabrication knowledge, and effective collaboration across teams to deliver cost-effective, compliant estimates.

Qualifications

  • Ability to read and interpret structural steel and fabrication drawings, including ISO drawings.
  • Understanding of fabrications, materials, weld symbols and tolerances.
  • Identify discrepancies and risks in tender docs and drawings.
  • Experience translating project docs into accurate estimates and costs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert estimating advice for major tenders and proposals.
  • Interpret drawings/specs to determine quantities, materials, labour and costs.
  • Develop execution methodologies and schedules.
  • Analyze data for tenders and ensure quality and completeness.

Job description

Monadelphous is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Estimator to join our RTW Fabrication Team in Capel. This is a Monday-Friday role offering stability and work-life balance in the South West. This is a Capel based role, and only local applicants will be considered.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide expert estimating advice to assist with compiling major tenders, proposals and expressions of interest on behalf of the division
  • Interpretation of drawings, specifications, material lists and project documentation to accurately determine quantities, materials, labour, plant and other costs for estimating purposes.
  • Developing execution methodologies and schedules
  • Analysing qualitative and quantitative data for inclusion in tenders
  • Review tenders and proposals for quality, risk, accuracy and completeness: responding quickly to correct problems
  • Identify ambiguities, risks and key issues in tender documentation
What you’ll bring:
  • Ability to accurately read, interpret and understand structural steel, piping and fabrication drawings, including piping isometric (ISO) drawings.
  • Strong understanding of structural steel detailing, fabrication requirements, materials, dimensions, weld symbols, connections and tolerances.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify discrepancies, omissions and potential construction or fabrication issues within drawings and project documentation.
  • Sound understanding of fabrication and construction methodologies and how these translate into accurate project estimates.
  • Well-developed communication skills and a collaborative, team-oriented approach with the ability to foster interpersonal relationships across all levels.
  • A methodical approach, high attention to detail and take responsibility for the quality and accuracy of own work.
  • A strong understanding of trades and disciplines involved in site/project operations.
  • Skilled in leveraging site knowledge to support daily tasks, with a strong focus on innovation and continuous improvement.
  • A basic understanding of Contract Law to interpret tender documentation.
  • Basic experience engaging and managing subcontractors.
