Job summary

Rio Tinto at the Gove site is seeking environmental professionals to support critical environmental monitoring and closure programs across water, marine, air quality and rehabilitation. This FIFO role suits graduates or experienced Environmental Technicians eager to contribute to compliance monitoring in a dynamic mining environment.

Expected exposure includes field sampling/monitoring, data handling, and collaboration with environmental advisors and operations teams, with a FIFO roster of 8

Qualifications

• Field-based environmental monitoring & sampling across surface water, groundwater, marine, potable water, air/dust.
• Strong safety focus and ability to work in remote/operational environments.
• Equipment handling: maintaining, calibrating, and checking monitoring instruments.
• Sample logistics: chain of custody, dispatch, tracking, and coordination with labs.
• Data handling: accurate records, basic QA/QC, and support for compliance reporting.
• Planning and executing routine monitoring programs (updating schedules and tasks as required).

Join Rio Tinto at their Gove site supporting critical environmental monitoring and closure programs across water, marine, air quality and rehabilitation. This is a hands‑on FIFO role suited to either an early-career Environmental Science/Environmental Engineering graduate wanting strong field exposure, or an experienced Environmental Technician ready to contribute to compliance‑focused monitoring in a dynamic operational environment.

Required Skills

• Field-based environmental monitoring & sampling (surface water, groundwater, marine, potable water, air/dust)
• Strong safety focus and ability to work in remote/operational environments
• Equipment handling: maintaining, calibrating, and checking monitoring instruments
• Sample logistics: chain of custody, dispatch, tracking, and coordination with labs
• Data handling: accurate records, basic QA/QC, and support for compliance reporting
• Planning and executing routine monitoring programs (updating schedules and tasks as required)

You will have:

• Exposure to operational/closure environmental programs in mining or heavy industry
• Familiarity with environmental data management systems and reporting workflows
• Experience working alongside environmental advisors and operations teams
• Qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or similar (graduates encouraged), or equivalent experience as an Environmental Technician
• Demonstrated experience in field sampling/monitoring and environmental compliance support is highly regarded

Other Requirements

• FIFO roster: 8 days on / 6 days off (8/6)
• FIFO location preference: Brisbane preferred, Cairns and Darwin considered.
