Job summary

Tronox is seeking an Environmental Rehabilitation Advisor to join the SHEQ team working on rehabilitation across Eastern Operations mine sites. The role is primarily at Atlas Mine with travel to other sites as required.

You will plan, implement and improve rehabilitation while complying with NSW reform regulations and closure obligations. The position is based on a mine site 1.5 hours northeast of Mildura, with site accommodation and meals provided.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s level qualification in a relevant field (Environmental Science, Natural Resources, Ecology).
• Around 3 years’ rehabilitation experience on operating mines.
• Knowledge of NSW rehabilitation reform regulations and closure obligations.
• Experience in field monitoring, data analysis and autonomous outdoor work.

Responsibilities

• Implement Rehabilitation Management Plans (RMPs) and annual restoration/planting programs.
• Coordinate on-ground rehabilitation delivery: planting cycles, seeding, topsoil and landform works.
• Assist in QA/QC of seeding rates and application; ensure work meets design standards.
• Collaborate with rehabilitation contractors to deliver safe, cost-efficient services.

Job description

We're seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Environmental Rehabilitation Advisor to join our Safety, Health, Environment & Quality (SHEQ) Team on a full-time basis.
This is a dedicated environmental rehabilitation role where you will work exclusively in the rehabilitation field across our Eastern Operations mine sites, which are now at different stages of their rehabilitation and closure life cycle. It is primarily based at our Atlas Mine Site, with travel to our other mine sites as required.

Reporting to the SHEQ Manager and working very closely with the Senior Rehabilitation Specialist, the Environmental Rehabilitation Advisor will focus solely on rehabilitation. They will help plan, implement and improve rehabilitation outcomes, while navigating the NSW rehabilitation reform regulations that govern how rehabilitation and mine closure are planned, monitored and reported. This role gives the rehabilitation function the additional capacity it needs to carry a large and complex portfolio across 4 mining leases.

This position is based at our mine site located 1.5 hours northeast of Mildura in New South Wales. From Mildura, you can securely lock up your car, sit back and relax on the regularly scheduled bus ride to and from Atlas. Site accommodation and meals are provided whilst on site as well as access to gym facilities.

Responsibilities include:

• Implement the Rehabilitation Management Plans (RMPs) and annual restoration/planting programs, ensuring objectives are achieved on time and within approved budget.
• Coordinate rehabilitation delivery on the ground - planting cycles, maintenance programs, seeding, topsoil and landform works - and confirm work is completed to design and standard.
• Support seeding and rehabilitation sign-offs, including QA/QC of seeding rates and application.
• Work with rehabilitation contractors to ensure safe, effective and cost-efficient services that comply with the required standards.
• Develop and review contractor scopes of work and track delivery against approved plans and standards.
• Ensure the required products and equipment are available to be utilised immediately when needed.
• Monitor maintenance of native vegetation, ensuring the team use appropriate techniques and methods.

MONITORING, REPORTING & REGULATORY

• Undertake rehabilitation monitoring, collect field data and maintain the rehabilitation dataset and spatial data management system.
• Create and update maps of rehabilitated areas and maintain rehabilitation records and history.
• Prepare and contribute to rehabilitation reporting, including monthly reporting and inputs to regulatory and reform-regulation reports.
• Navigate and support compliance with NSW rehabilitation reform regulations, consent conditions, RMPs and closure obligations.
• Support the Senior Rehabilitation Specialist with rehabilitation planning, research and trials, change management, reviews and project follow-up.
• Contribute to the section's budgeting and forecasting for rehabilitation activities.

ABOUT YOU

You will have:

• Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Ecology, Agricultural Science, Mine Engineering or a related field.
• Around 3 years' experience working in rehabilitation on an operating mine, including practical involvement in implementing and monitoring rehabilitation.
• Advanced knowledge of NSW rehabilitation reform regulations and mining rehabilitation and closure obligations.
• Experience undertaking rehabilitation/environmental field monitoring and the ability to create and analyse datasets, and to work autonomously and as part of a small team in an outdoor setting.
• A keen attitude, strong work ethic and commitment to working in a safe and responsible manner.
• Experience in restoration, revegetation, native and agricultural rehabilitation, preferably in the minerals industry.
• Experience with contractor coordination and rehabilitation contractor scopes, and the ability to engage stakeholders across all levels including government regulators.
• Experience in mapping in GIS, and familiarity with spatial data management.
