Job summary

Thiess Australia East is hiring an Environment Lead to drive environmental performance across our mining operations. The role partners with Project Managers, site teams and regulators to integrate environmental requirements into planning and execution.

You will coach teams, lead audits, and advance sustainability across diverse sites. You will lead governance, compliance and improvement initiatives while supporting tender activity and staying ahead of regulatory changes.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Management or a related discipline.
• Extensive environmental management experience within mining, construction or a similar heavy industry environment.
• Strong working knowledge of environmental legislation, compliance obligations and ISO 14001 environmental management systems.
• Experience in environmental auditing, risk management and incident investigation.
• Ability to travel to projects across the region to engage directly with site personnel.
• Proven ability to influence stakeholders across multiple levels of an organisation.
• Strong communication, analytical and problem-solving skills.
• A practical, solutions-focused approach with a passion for sustainable outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Leading environmental performance and continual improvement initiatives across Australia East operations.
• Driving compliance with environmental legislation, approvals, licences and Thiess environmental management systems.
• Partnering with project leaders to integrate environmental requirements into planning and operational decision-making.
• Coaching and mentoring environmental professionals across the region.
• Leading environmental audits, compliance reviews and incident investigations.
• Supporting environmental aspects of new tenders and business opportunities.
• Monitoring emerging environmental risks, regulatory changes and industry trends.
• Building strong relationships with clients, regulators, consultants and industry stakeholders.
• Championing innovation, capability development and knowledge sharing across the business.
