Job summary

Laing O’Rourke is seeking an Environmental Manager to join our AUKUS team on the Osborne, South Australia program. You will lead delivery of environmental management plans, ensure regulatory and contract compliance, and drive performance across project teams and contractors.

The role requires a tertiary environmental degree, 7+ years in major infrastructure approvals, and capability to work with governing bodies; Australian citizenship and NV1 clearance are essential.

Qualifications

  • Requires tertiary qualification in Environment related studies (BEnvSc, BEnvMan, BSc, BEnvEng or equivalent).
  • Significant experience dealing with environmental and industry governing bodies.
  • Australian citizenship and ability to obtain NV1 level Defence Security Clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of the Project Environmental Management Plan, ensuring compliance with project, regulatory and contractual requirements.
  • Provide environmental leadership, guidance and technical support to project teams, contractors and suppliers to drive environmental performance.
  • Manage and develop the project environmental team through coaching, mentoring, performance management and capability development.
  • Coordinate environmental approvals, assessments, surveys and compliance activities across all phases of project delivery.
  • Review and oversee environmental documentation, management plans, method statements and contractor submissions to ensure compliance and risk mitigation.
  • Conduct environmental inspections, audits and assurance activities, identifying issues and driving corrective actions and continuous improvement.
  • Lead environmental incident response, investigations and reporting, ensuring timely resolution and preventative measures.

About you
  • A tertiary qualification in Environment related studies (BEnvSc, BEnvMan, BSc, BEnvEng or equivalent degree)
  • At least 7 years prior experience managing environmental approvals for major infrastructure in the road, rail, energy or water markets.
  • Significant experience dealing with environmental and industry-based governing bodies.
  • Applicants must be Australian citizens and hold or be able to obtain an Australian Defence Security Clearance to NV1 level.
