Job summary

Bielby is seeking an Environmental Manager to lead environmental strategy, compliance and sustainability for a major NSW regional road restoration project. Based in Sydney during design, you will influence environmental outcomes across planning, approvals, construction and completion.

You will work with project leadership, regulators and site teams to embed environmental performance in every phase, balancing delivery with obligations and long-term growth of Bielby’s environmental capability.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Management or related discipline.
  • 10+ years' experience in environmental management within civil infrastructure, construction, mining or related industries.
  • Significant experience working on major road, transport or infrastructure projects.
  • Strong knowledge of NSW environmental legislation, approval frameworks and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience managing environmental compliance within complex stakeholder environments.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement capability.
  • Proven ability to influence project teams and drive a strong environmental culture.
  • Strong reporting, auditing and risk management experience.
  • Ability to balance operational delivery requirements with environmental obligations and sustainability outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead environmental management and compliance across the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental approvals, licence conditions, project specifications and legislative requirements.
  • Develop, implement and continuously improve project environmental management plans and systems.
  • Establish strong relationships with regulatory bodies, government agencies, clients and key stakeholders.
  • Monitor environmental performance and lead auditing, reporting and assurance activities.
  • Manage environmental risks associated with large-scale regional infrastructure construction.
  • Provide expert advice to project teams on environmental compliance, sustainability initiatives and risk mitigation.
  • Lead incident investigations and the development of corrective actions where required.
  • Drive environmental awareness, training and engagement initiatives across project teams.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance sustainability outcomes and support Bielby's environmental leadership across NSW.

Environmental Manager

Bielby is experiencing a period of sustained growth, supported by a strong pipeline of infrastructure projects and continued expansion into new regions. Building on over 40 years of successful delivery across major infrastructure projects, we are seeking an accomplished Environmental Manager to join our team and play a critical role in the delivery of a major $400M regional road restoration project.

Initially based in Sydney during the design phase, this role offers the opportunity to lead environmental strategy, compliance and sustainability outcomes on a high-profile regional infrastructure project while helping shape Bielby's environmental capability and long-term growth across NSW.

Working closely with project leadership, clients, regulatory authorities and site teams, you will ensure environmental performance is embedded in every stage of project delivery, from planning and approvals through to construction and project completion.

What You’ll Do
