Job summary

Osborne Richardson are partnering with Yarra Ranges Shire Council to recruit an Environmental Health Officer for a 3-month contract, working 4 days per week in the outer east of Melbourne. You’ll join a supportive EH team and handle inspections, enforcement and community guidance from day one.

The role covers food premises assessments, public health inspections, nuisance investigations and keeping precise records, with a focus on delivering timely, compliant outcomes.

Qualifications

• Must meet authorised officer requirements under Victorian Food Act and Public Health Act.
• Experience as Environmental Health Officer in Victorian local government preferred.
• Proficient in food safety, public health, and nuisance legislation.

Responsibilities

• Inspect and assess registered food premises under the Food Act 1984
• Carry out inspections and registrations under the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008
• Investigate and resolve public health and environmental nuisance complaints
• Assess applications, issue notices and take enforcement action
• Food sampling, education and advice to businesses and community
• Maintain accurate records and support team workflow

Job description

Osborne Richardson are partnering with Yarra Ranges Shire Council to find an experienced Environmental Health Officer for a 3 month contract, working 4 days per week. Yarra Ranges takes in the outer east of Melbourne and the Dandenong Ranges and Yarra Valley beyond it, so you’ll get a genuinely varied patch, from busy town centres to wineries, markets and tourism businesses. You’ll slot into a supportive Environmental Health team and get stuck into the core of the role from day one.

What you’ll be doing

• Inspecting and assessing registered food premises under the Food Act 1984
• Carrying out inspections and registrations under the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008
• Investigating and resolving public health and environmental nuisance complaints
• Assessing applications, issuing notices and taking compliance and enforcement action where needed
• Food sampling, education and advice to businesses and the community
• Keeping accurate records and contributing to the team's day-to-day workload

What you’ll need

• A qualification that meets the requirements for an authorised officer under the Food Act 1984 and the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008 in Victoria
• Recent Environmental Health Officer experience in Victorian local government
• Confident working knowledge of food safety, public health and nuisance legislation
• Sound judgement in compliance and enforcement matters
• Strong communication skills with business owners and the public
• Good written skills and accurate record keeping
• A current driver’s licence
