Job summary

Middlemount Coal Mine in Queensland seeks an experienced Environment & Community Advisor to support environmental compliance, rehabilitation, and approvals across the operation. Reporting to the Environment, Community & Approvals Manager, you will provide practical environmental advice to operational teams and help deliver regulatory reporting and GDP processes.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Previous experience within the mining, resources or heavy industry sectors.
  • Strong understanding of environmental legislation and compliance requirements.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support environmental compliance and environmental management systems.
  • Coordinate environmental monitoring programs and reporting requirements.
  • Assist with Ground Disturbance Permit (GDP) administration and GIS mapping.
  • Support implementation of the Progressive Rehabilitation and Closure Plan (PRCP).
  • Contribute to rehabilitation planning, disturbance tracking and rehabilitation reporting.
  • Assist with development and maintenance of Estimated Rehabilitation Cost (ERC) submissions.
  • Support implementation and reporting of environmental offset commitments.
  • Conduct environmental inspections, audits and field verification activities.
  • Manage environmental consultants and contractors as required.
  • Support community engagement activities and stakeholder interactions.

Middlemount Coal Mine is located approximately 90 kilometres north-east of Emerald and some 7 kilometres west of the township of Middlemount in Queensland’s Bowen Basin.

Middlemount Coal Mine is an open-cut coal mine which uses conventional truck and shovel methods. Middlemount Coal commenced its full-scale operations in November 2011, producing approximately 4Mtpa of coking and PCI coal for export. Middlemount Coal Mine has a life expectancy estimated to be more than 30 years.

Middlemount Coal Pty Ltd (Middlemount) is an incorporated joint venture between Peabody Energy Australia Pty Ltd and Yancoal Australia Ltd.

About the Role

An opportunity exists for an experienced and motivated Environment & Community Advisor to join our Environment & Community team at Middlemount Coal. Reporting to the Environment, Community & Approvals Manager, the Environment & Community Advisor plays a key role in supporting environmental compliance, rehabilitation, community engagement and approvals management across the operation.

The successful candidate will provide practical environmental advice to operational teams and support the delivery of environmental obligations, rehabilitation commitments, Ground Disturbance Permit processes and regulatory reporting requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support environmental compliance and environmental management systems.

  • Coordinate environmental monitoring programs and reporting requirements.

  • Assist with Ground Disturbance Permit (GDP) administration and GIS mapping.

  • Support implementation of the Progressive Rehabilitation and Closure Plan (PRCP).

About You

To be successful in this role you will possess:

Essential
  • Tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or a related discipline.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Desirable
  • Knowledge of Queensland environmental approval requirements.

  • Experience with rehabilitation planning and reporting.

  • Familiarity with PRCP, ERC and environmental monitoring programs.

  • Experience with GIS systems and Ground Disturbance Permit processes.

  • Knowledge of ISO 14001 environmental management systems.
