Job summary

Sedgman in Brisbane is seeking a Cadet Designer to join our multidisciplinary drafting team. You will gain hands-on experience across Structural, Mechanical and Piping (SMP) design while learning from experienced engineers on large mining projects.

Ideal candidates are studying or have completed an engineering qualification, with a keen eye for detail and a willingness to develop skills in AutoCAD, Inventor and MicroStation. Brisbane-based role with a structured entry-level pathway.

Qualifications

• Completion of at least one year of Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree in Engineering.
• OR completion of at least one year of a Certificate IV in Engineering for trade-qualified applicants.
• Genuine interest in SMP design, engineering or drafting.
• Willingness to learn and develop with mentoring and training.

Responsibilities

• Assist in development of detailed 3D SMP designs using Autodesk Plant Design software.
• Produce engineering drawings and technical documentation under guidance.
• Gain exposure to materials handling systems and piping layouts.
• Work within project budgets and schedules with accurate records.
• Support multidisciplinary project teams across engineering activities.
• Develop understanding of SMP standards and industry practices.
• Contribute to drafting system maintenance and project documentation.
• Participate in quality improvement and continuous learning.
