Job summary

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc. (SEL) seeks a diligent technician to perform basic testing, services, and troubleshooting of SEL products under guidance.

You will communicate progress to customers and teammates, learn department processes, and participate in improvement initiatives to documentation and work instructions. Role requires travel up to 75% to support customer needs; you will gain proficiency across SEL’s disciplines and embody SEL values and world-class manufacturing

Qualifications

Job description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Complete basic testing, services, or troubleshooting of SEL products and processes in accordance with defined procedures under the direction of more experienced staff.
  2. Provides status updates to SEL staff and customers. Communicates effectively with team and internal partners and customers.
  3. Learn and follow department processes while communicating opportunities for improvement to documentation or work instructions.
  4. Represent your team by participating in collaborative improvement efforts.
  5. Develop basic proficiency in the activities required to support one of the Operation Team’s disciplines (i.e. Flowline product failures, Product Hospital, test infrastructure support, or Test Lab), or R&D’s disciplines (i.e. Lab Support, Product Test, Infrastructure, or Compliance).
  6. Travel 75% of the time to support customer and business needs.
  7. Learn and apply SEL Values, Principles of Operation, and World Class Manufacturing Principles.
  8. Understand. Create. Simplify.
  9. Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Two years’ relevant experience
  • Able to efficiently operate Windows and MS Office
  • Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills
  • Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment
  • Background check results satisfactory to SEL
  • Ability to travel up to 75%
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two years’ experience working with SEL products
  • Experience with computer-controlled test equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret assembly drawings, electronic schematics, and wiring diagrams
Physical Requirements
  • Lift, push, pull and maneuver up to 20 pounds frequently, and up to 35 pounds occasionally
  • Sit and stand for at least 8 hours
  • Vision correctable to 20/30 or better
  • Ability to differentiate color
  • Use of computer keyboard devices
