Job summary

Rosewood Partners is seeking an embedded systems leader to become their next Engineering Manager, guiding both hardware and firmware teams in Sydney. The role blends people leadership with technical direction and client-facing responsibilities to drive the delivery of embedded solutions.

You will spend roughly 70% of your time on billable work, architecting solutions, and providing technical leadership, while dedicating 30% to leading the team, supporting estimations, proposals, and serving as

We are working with a leading product development company to find an embedded systems leader to be their next Engineering Manager, leading their hardware and firmware team.

About the role

This role involves a blend of people leadership and technical direction. In this role, you will spend approximately:

• 70% of your time on billable work, where you’ll architect solutions and provide technical leadership.
• 30% leading the team, supporting estimations and proposals, and acting as the primary point of contact for the hardware and firmware teams.

While that’s the estimated time split, the big focus (and area of opportunity) will be on people leadership, mentoring, and building a thriving team culture. The team already has great engineers, they just need a dedicated leader to get the best out of them, and to help guide and grow the function.

The team will rely on you to:

• Manage, mentor, and develop the capability of a highly senior engineering team.

Ideally you have:

• A strong technical background in either Hardware or Firmware Engineering (minimum 10 years of experience).
• The ability to provide technical leadership and architectural oversight for complex engineering projects.
• Experience in a people management role, specifically mentoring and developing technical teams.
• Commercial acumen with experience in business development, project estimations, and proposal writing.
• Excellent interpersonal skills to foster culture and manage senior technical stakeholders.

• Experience working with highly regulated products (eg defence, medtech), or within a engineering consulting environment.
