Job summary

Machines4U, part of carsales, is seeking a senior software engineering leader to own end-to-end engineering execution across product development, platform reliability and delivery cadence. You will translate executive priorities into a clear roadmap and guide a distributed team to deliver scalable, secure systems.

You'll work with product and Carsales colleagues to evolve Machines4U technology, modernising the stack while protecting existing systems and ensuring reliable interfaces across

Qualifications

• Proven experience leading engineering teams in a product-led, commercially-driven environment
• Strong technical depth across modern web stacks (backend and frontend), cloud infrastructure, and API design
• Track record delivering practical roadmaps that drive business outcomes
• Experience operating in a mixed legacy and modern technology environment with a pragmatic modernisation approach
• Natural relationship builder across functions with accountability to the group
• Ability to set coding standards, incident response, and roadmap trade-offs
• Hands-on capability to review architecture, unblock engineers and spot quality issues early
• Pragmatic approach balancing delivery pace with security, reliability and scalability

Responsibilities

• Own engineering execution for Machines4U from product development to platform reliability and engineering practices
• Translate business priorities into a sequenced engineering roadmap and deliver against it
• Lead a high-performing distributed engineering team and uphold standards
• Partner with product and carsales engineering to shape Machines4U technology landscape
• Modernise technology stack while balancing legacy stability and scalable systems
• Oversee platform integrations and dependencies across marketplace, CRM, payments, marketing and reporting
• Contribute to security, reliability and compliance practices
• Provide engineering perspectives to senior leadership with risk and capacity assessments
