Job summary

Xero Limited is seeking an Engineering Manager in the Machine Learning & AI team to lead a high-performing, inclusive group building and operating AI-powered experiences across Xero. You will drive delivery across customer-facing AI, backend services, and production platforms, while fostering scalable, observable, and secure systems.

You will work with senior engineers to shape technical direction, promote AI-native practices, and develop people and processes to enable AI-powered products at

Qualifications

Experience leading and developing engineers and building team capability.
Strong technical judgement across architecture and system design.
Track record turning business goals into executable engineering plans.
Experience delivering roadmaps in fast-paced environments.
Experience building and operating production-grade software.
Hands-on when needed to unblock the team.
Experience with ML or AI product space is a bonus.

Responsibilities

Lead engineering across surfaces from customer-facing AI experiences to backend services.
Balance delivery with engineering quality and scalability (MLOps, LLMOps, observability).
Shape technical direction and focus on team growth and sustainable practices.
Collaborate with senior ICs to translate advances in ML into production.
