Job summary

Sportsbet Pty Ltd. in Melbourne expects an Engineering Manager to shape the team and the technology behind our high‑volume products. You will lead a cross‑functional feature team of 8–10, aligning delivery with customer value and driving engineering excellence at pace.

You’ll build empowered, high‑performing teams, partner with Tech, Product and the business to solve complex problems, and mentor engineers to grow while balancing today’s delivery with long‑term system health.

Qualifications

• Experience leading engineering teams in a high‑volume, agile environment.
• Proven track record building empowered cross-functional teams.
• Strong delivery leadership to align multiple priorities with stakeholders.
• Knowledge of microservices, event-driven architecture, CI/CD and test automation.
• Experience with Java/Spring Boot and AWS for scalable cloud systems.

About The Role

As an Engineering Manager, you’ll have the opportunity to shape both the team and the technology behind products used at serious scale. Leading a cross-functional Feature Team of around 8 to 10 people, you’ll bring together people, delivery and engineering to turn complex challenges into great customer outcomes. This is a role where you can make a genuine impact, empowering talented people, influencing how we work and championing engineering excellence while keeping delivery moving at pace.

Responsibilities Include:

• Build a team people want to be part of, creating the environment, clarity and support they need to grow, collaborate and do their best work.
• Lead delivery from planning through to production, helping your team navigate priorities, risks and dependencies while staying focused on customer value.
• Give your team the space to own outcomes, make decisions and continuously improve, while stepping in to remove roadblocks when it matters.
• Partner closely across Technology, Product and the wider Sportsbet business to solve complex problems and turn ideas into meaningful outcomes.
• Champion engineering excellence, balancing what we need to deliver today with the long-term health, scalability and reliability of our technology.

What You Will Bring:

• Experience leading engineering teams in a complex, high-volume e-commerce or similar agile technology environment.
• A track record of building empowered, high-performing cross-functional teams and helping people grow.
• Strong delivery leadership, with the confidence to navigate multiple priorities and bring technical and business stakeholders together.
• A solid understanding of modern engineering practices, including microservices, event-driven architecture, CI/CD, test automation and enterprise application development.
• Exposure to technologies such as Java/Spring Boot and AWS, with an understanding of what it takes to build highly available, scalable and reliable cloud-based systems.
