Job summary

Virgin Australia is seeking an experienced integration engineering leader to guide a small team delivering API, Java microservices and event-driven integration for Operations projects. You will translate designs into robust, scalable solutions and ensure quality, security and production readiness.

This role blends hands-on coding with architectural leadership. Use AI-assisted tooling to accelerate discovery, design and delivery, mentor engineers across onshore, offshore and vendors, and partner

Qualifications

• Extensive experience in software engineering with focus on the integration space.
• Practical experience using AI coding assistants across software design, development, testing, code review and documentation.
• Deep hands-on experience with Java and Spring Boot.
• Experience with event-driven integration and Kafka.
• Experience working with Kubernetes and cloud-based microservice environments.
• Design leadership translating architecture into implementable designs and guiding teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical design and delivery of APIs, Java microservices, and event-driven integration solutions.
• Translate logical solution architecture into detailed physical designs, implementation plans, and engineering standards.
• Establish and maintain integration engineering standards, patterns, guardrails, and reusable assets.
• Provide hands-on technical leadership across Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, API Management, AWS, Kubernetes, and containerised environments.
• Coach and mentor engineers across onshore, offshore and vendor teams.
• Review designs and code for quality, security, performance and resilience.
• Oversee releases and production support within your domain.
