Job summary

Civmec Construction & Engineering Pty Ltd is seeking experienced Project Engineers for the SMPE&I team in Western Australia. You will help coordinate and deliver major construction activities at the Iluka Rare Earths Refinery site, ensuring safety, schedule, and quality standards are met.

Working with the Engineering Manager and site teams, you’ll manage subcontractors, plan progress, and contribute to successful milestone delivery, focusing on SMP scopes and piping, structures, and mechanical

Qualifications

  • A tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience delivering SMP (Structural, Mechanical & Piping) scopes on major construction projects.
  • Strong technical knowledge across piping systems, steel structures, mechanical equipment installation, and modern construction methodologies.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and engineering software such as AutoCAD, Navisworks, or similar tools.

  • Support construction works and ensure safety, schedule, and quality standards.

  • Provide detailed progress reporting and manage technical deviations.

  • Conduct inspections and verify readiness for testing and commissioning.
  • Assist with material take-offs, procurement tracking, and delivery coordination.
  • Participate in pre-starts, toolbox talks, and safety reviews.

Civmec is proud to be partnering with Iluka on the delivery of the SMPE&I package for the Iluka Rare Earths Refinery, one of Australia’s most significant critical minerals projects. This landmark development will establish the country’s first fully integrated rare earths refinery and involves the delivery of large-scale structural, mechanical, piping, electrical and instrumentation works within a complex processing environment.

We're seeking experienced and career-driven Project Engineers to join our SMPE&I team. This is an opportunity to play a key role in the delivery of a major construction project while working alongside experienced industry professionals in a fast-paced project environment.

This position is based at the Iluka Rare Earths Refinery in Eneabba, approximately 274 km north of Perth, Western Australia. We offer a 2:1 DIDO roster, with all transport to and from site provided from Perth Airport.

The Role

Working closely with Engineering Manager and site teams, you will help coordinate and deliver project activities, support construction works, and ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and to the required quality standards. You will play a key role in planning, tracking progress, managing subcontractors, and contributing to the successful delivery of major project milestones.

  • Align SMP construction activities with project schedules and specifications
  • Liaising with key stakeholders to resolve technical queries and ensure alignment
  • Providing detailed reporting to monitor progress
  • Manage technical deviation requests and maintain the technical query register
  • Maintain compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards across all works
  • Conduct inspections to verify quality and readiness for testing and commissioning
  • Identify and mitigate risk and non-conformances through proactive problem-solving
  • Assist with material take-offs, procurement tracking, and delivery coordination
  • Participate in pre-starts, toolbox talks, and safety reviews to promote a strong safety culture
  • Collaborating with planning and commercial teams to support forecasting, cost control, and change management.
About You
