Job summary

BDO Australia is seeking a Payroll Officer to join the finance team, delivering end-to-end payroll for 2,800+ employees across NSW, QLD, SA, VIC & WA. The payroll function supports a dispersed workforce and is undergoing transformation to enhance accuracy and efficiency.

This role requires meticulous data handling, strong communication with stakeholders, and a proactive approach to continuous improvement within a dynamic, supportive environment.

Qualifications

• Previous payroll experience in a medium to large organisation.
• Familiarity with payroll systems; Workday experience is preferred but not essential.
• Understanding of payroll legislation, awards, and enterprise agreements is beneficial.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
• Relevant qualifications in payroll, finance, or business administration are advantageous but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Process end-to-end fortnightly payroll with data validation, approvals and finalisation.
• Generate new hire records and maintain employee records.
• Manage and reconcile termination payments in line with legislation and internal policies.
• Prepare and review payroll calculations such as bonuses, remuneration adjustments and back pays.
• Collaborate with People & Culture and Finance to ensure payroll accuracy and resolve queries.
• Monitor payroll inbox, respond to employee queries promptly and escalate complex issues as needed.
• Maintain payroll operations by following policies and contributing to process improvements.
• Carry out ad hoc administrative payroll tasks as required.
