Job summary

The University of Sydney is seeking a qualified Veterinary Nurse in Emergency Critical Care to join the UVTHS team at Camperdown. You will provide nursing and technical support for emergency cases and contribute to student teaching within a multidisciplinary hospital setting.

Qualifications

• Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing (or equivalent) and/or advanced nursing experience in a small animal emergency setting.
• Proficiency in IV catheters, phlebotomy, radiographs and anesthesia for emergencies.
• Knowledge of a wide range of veterinary emergency and critical care cases.
• Ability to cope with emergencies and work independently and as a team.
• Strong communication with veterinary professionals and teaching staff.
• Experience in customer service with high levels of patient and client care.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing and technical assistance for critical patients in the Critical Care Unit.
• Assist clinicians and veterinary student interns with treatments and emergency procedures.
• Participate in RECOVER-based CPR.
• Triage incoming emergencies, assist stabilisation and manage workflow of vets and students.
• Support clinical teaching and professional nursing for clinical cases.
• Handle telephone and face-to-face enquiries and after-hours duties.
• Maintain stock, including ordering consumables and stock control.
• Clean and maintain clinical spaces and equipment.
