Job summary

Canterbury Hospital in Sydney's NSW Health system is seeking a Trainee Stage 1 in Emergency Medicine for the 2027 clinical year. The role trains doctors to meet the needs of emergency patients within a large metropolitan hospital and supervised learning environment.

You will work under supervision to provide high quality care in the ED, participate in teaching, research and quality programs, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams as part of a redevelopment period advancing acute services.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of four (4) full years of postgraduate general hospital experience.
  • Two (2) years of emergency medicine experience in an Australian Emergency Department or equivalent.
  • Application for ACEM Selection into Fellowship Training in progress or confirmed.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high quality medical care under supervision to undifferentiated patients presenting to the Emergency Department.
  • Coordinate admission, assessment, management and discharge planning of patients.
  • Have direct clinical involvement in the care of all patients, including the critically ill.
  • Provide supervision to junior medical staff and support ED operations.
  • Communicate assessment and management decisions to staff and families involved in care.
  • Coordinate diagnostic tests and consultations with other medical specialists.
  • Be involved in teaching, research and quality programs.
