Job summary

Gallagher's Animal Management division seeks an Embedded Test Engineer in Melbourne to ensure our eShepherd devices and software meet high reliability in demanding farm environments. You’ll design and execute test strategies across embedded hardware, mobile apps, and web interfaces, and work closely with developers to catch defects early.

The role emphasizes hands-on testing, log analysis, and automation, with tools like Jenkins, Python, Zephyr, and Jira.

Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Engineering, CS, Mechatronics or related field.
• 3+ years in manual and automated testing for embedded environments.
• Strong testing methodologies (black-box, white-box, exploratory).
• Experience with test automation tools/frameworks (Jenkins, Python, SCPI).
• Familiar with version control (Git) and test management tools (Zephyr).
• Experience with Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket.
• Ability to analyze raw device logs and cloud data.
• Excellent troubleshooting, problem solving, and communication skills.
• Collaborative mindset and keen attention to detail.

We’re seeking a passionate Test Engineer to ensure our embedded systems perform flawlessly in demanding environments. You’ll be hands‑on in maintaining product quality, designing and executing test strategies, running manual and automated tests, and working closely with developers and cross‑functional teams to catch and resolve issues before they reach our customers. Your efforts will help us deliver devices that meet the highest standards of reliability and performance.

• Strong understanding of testing methodologies (black‑box, white‑box, exploratory)
• Experience with test automation tools and frameworks (e.g., Jenkins, Python, SCPI)
• Familiarity with version control (Git) and test management tools (e.g., Zephyr)
• Experience with Atlassian tools (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket)
• Ability to analyze raw device logs and cloud data
• Excellent troubleshooting, problem‑solving, and communication skills
• A collaborative mindset and a keen eye for detail

Bonus points if you have:

• Knowledge of electronics systems and communication protocols (UART, SPI, I2C)
• Experience with IoT technologies (GNSS, IMU, LoRa, LTE‑M/NB‑IoT, BLE, Wi‑Fi)
• Hands on experience of ESP32, Nordic, Arduino, STM32, FreeRTOS/Zephyr‑RTOS, Jenkins, CMock, Google Test, HIL, EMI/EMC
• Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and cloud‑powered products
• SQL database skills
• Experience with security, performance, or automated testing
• Familiarity with debugging tools like JTAG, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers
