Job summary

QinetiQ Australia in Melbourne is seeking an experienced Electronics Technician 1D to join our team in Fisherman's Bend. You will perform PCB population, fault finding, wiring, and enclosure fabrication, while working with engineers, project managers, and clients on complex systems.

Ideal candidates hold a Certificate III in Electronics and Communications, IPC certifications, and have the ability to obtain NV1 clearance.

Qualifications

• Australian Defence security clearance NV1 or ability to obtain.
• Certificate III in Electronics and Communications.
• IPC-610/IPC-7711/7721/IPC-620 certifications or ability to obtain.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Complete Surface Mount and Through-Hole PCB population and use of Pick and Place machines.
• Rework/repair and fault finding of electronic assemblies.
• Cabling and wire harness manufacturing including solder and crimp.
• Enclosure fabrication oversight – front panel design and mounting.
• Diagnose fault finding and repair legacy electronic equipment.
• Apply multi-trade knowledge to commissioning and troubleshooting of complex systems.
• Engage with clients and hold technical discussions on-site.
• Follow engineering schematics and BOM configuration, provide feedback.
• Lead safety, quality, security and leadership in projects.

The opportunity

As Electronics Technician

Your responsibilities will include, but not limited to:

• Ability to complete Surface Mount and Through-Hole PCB Population-Hand/Manual/Automatic Pick and Place machines
• Reworking/Repairing, fault finding of Electronic Assemblies
• Cabling and Wire Harness Manufacturing – Solder and Crimp
• Controlling Enclosure Fabrication – Front Panel Design, Enclosure Cut outs and Mounting, Wiring and V&V testing
• Diagnosing fault finding and repairing legacy electronic equipment
• Ability to apply a wide breadth of experience and multi-trade knowledge to commissioning, trouble shooting of complex systems
• Holding client facing roles, including negotiating technical issues with clients
• Ability to follow engineering schematics, assembly drawings and provide technical feedback
• Accurately managing configuration of designs, including working to the correct bill of materials (BoM)
• Leading proactive management of safety, quality, security and leadership
• Working collaboratively with fellow peers, engineers, project managers and clients
• Ability to provide technical direction and training to other technical staff in routine work
• Peer review, including formal certification of quality checks
• Fostering collaborative and a high-performance work culture, promoting teamwork, accountability and continuous improvement
• Providing advice and guidance to professional engineers and designers, positively influencing designs and projects

To be successful in the position of Electronics Technician

You will need to bring with you:

• A certificate III in Electronics and Communications or equivalent
• Certified in IPC-610 – Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies (or ability to obtain)
• Certified in IPC-7711/7721 – Rework, Modification and Repair of Electronic Assemblies (or ability to obtain)
• Certified in IPC-620 – Requirements and Acceptance for Cable and Wire Harness Assemblies (or ability to obtain)
• Cross-skilled in some other technical fields to an advanced level
• Ability to work in a dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities in a timely manner to the required quality standard
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with stakeholders at all levels and maintain strong relationships

Due to the nature of the role, applicants must hold an Australian Defence security clearance, NV1 minimum or have the ability to obtain one.
