Job summary

Alcoa of Australia, Portland Smelter, is seeking an Electrical Tradesperson to join the Smelter Maintenance team on day shift. You will install, commission, maintain and optimise electrical equipment across the site, partnering with operations, maintenance and contractor teams to maximise reliability and safety.

You will bring recognised Electrical Trade qualification and Victorian A Grade Licence, with PLC/motor control experience and a strong fault-finding mindset.

Qualifications

• Recognised Electrical Trade qualification and Victorian A Grade Electrical Licence.
• Strong fault-finding and troubleshooting in industrial environments.
• Experience with PLCs, motor control and industrial automation.
• Good problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Experience in heavy industry, manufacturing, mining, resources or continuous processing operations.
• Commitment to safe work practices and environmental compliance.
• High Voltage switching experience or willingness to train.

Responsibilities

• Install, commission, recommission and test electrical equipment and systems.
• Diagnose faults and provide practical, cost-effective solutions to equipment issues.
• Perform electrical isolations, commissioning activities and operational handovers.
• Undertake High Voltage switching and act as a Responsible Person supporting switchyard operations (where qualified).
• Prepare work scopes and coordinate maintenance and project activities.
• Supervise contractors and ensure work is completed safely and to specification.
• Audit work quality and support quality management system requirements.
• Analyse maintenance data to identify reliability improvements and optimise equipment performance.
• Coach and provide on-the-job training to apprentices and developing tradespeople.
• Drive continuous improvement through the Alcoa Business System and reliability-focused maintenance practices.
