Job summary

Fast Automation is seeking an Electrical Lead Design Engineer to take a lead role in the electrical design and delivery of industrial automation and machinery projects. You will develop schematics, wiring diagrams and control panel layouts using EPLAN, and ensure designs comply with AS/NZS 61439.

You will work closely with PLC/Controls Engineers and Electricians, reviewing designs, resolving issues, and providing technical support during installation and commissioning.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge applying AS/NZS 61439 to switchboards and electrical assemblies.
• Experience designing electrical distribution, control and protection systems.
• Understanding of PLC-controlled systems, motors and drives.

Electrical Lead Design Engineer – Industrial Automation

You will take a lead role in the electrical design and delivery of industrial automation and machinery projects.

Key responsibilities

Leading electrical design for industrial automation and machinery projects

Developing electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and control panel layouts using EPLAN

Designing and documenting switchboards and electrical assemblies in accordance with AS/NZS 61439

Applying AS/NZS 61439 requirements throughout the design and documentation process

Designing electrical distribution, control and protection systems

Selecting electrical components, drives, motors, instrumentation and control equipment

Working closely with PLC/Controls Engineers and Industrial Electricians

Providing technical support during panel build, installation and commissioning

Reviewing electrical designs and resolving technical issues

Liaising with customers, suppliers and contractors

About you

Strong electrical design experience within industrial automation, machinery, manufacturing or control systems

Proven hands‑on experience using EPLAN for electrical design and documentation

Strong knowledge and practical experience applying AS/NZS 61439 to the design, documentation and verification of switchboards and electrical assemblies

Strong understanding of switchboard and control panel design, including electrical distribution, protection, segregation, busbars and component selection

Experience designing electrical systems for automated machinery and industrial equipment

Good understanding of PLC‑controlled systems, motors, drives, instrumentation and control systems

Experience selecting electrical components and producing detailed electrical drawings and documentation

Good understanding of AS/NZS 3000 and other relevant Australian electrical standards

Ability to review designs, solve technical problems and develop practical engineering solutions

Strong communication skills and the ability to work closely with electricians, automation engineers, customers and suppliers
