Job summary

Vitae Group in Melbourne is seeking an Electrical Engineer for our Melbourne manufacturing partner, specialising in bespoke industrial equipment. This hands-on role involves developing electrical power and control systems, supporting testing at the facility, and visiting client sites to oversee installations.

You will work with customers, suppliers and other engineers to produce schematics, wiring diagrams and BOMs, and you will contribute to PLC, HMI and SCADA integration while ensuring safety

Qualifications

• A degree in electrical engineering and the qualifications required to practise in Victoria.
• Demonstrated Australian electrical design experience in industrial equipment or control systems.
• Experience with temperature control, combustion systems, industrial heating equipment or safety interlocks would be highly regarded.
• Strong AutoCAD skills and experience designing industrial power and control systems.

Responsibilities

• Produce electrical and control schematics, PLC I/O diagrams, cable schedules, termination diagrams and panel layouts in AutoCAD.
• Design and integrate heating, temperature control and safety interlock systems for custom industrial equipment, including furnaces and ovens.
• Select and size cables, switchgear and other electrical components.
• Prepare equipment specifications, bills of materials and technical documentation.
• Support PLC, HMI and SCADA integration and programming, depending on your experience.
• Coordinate and take part in equipment testing, including factory acceptance testing with customers.
• Visit client sites to oversee electrical installation and commissioning, resolving issues as they arise.

We are recruiting an Electrical Engineer for an established Melbourne manufacturer of specialised industrial equipment. This is a hands‑on role for someone who enjoys working closely with a workshop team, seeing their designs take shape, and solving practical challenges through to commissioning.

You will develop electrical power and control systems for custom projects, support equipment testing at the Melbourne facility, and visit client sites to oversee installations. You will also work directly with customers, suppliers and colleagues across other engineering disciplines.

What you'll be doing

Produce electrical and control schematics, PLC I/O diagrams, cable schedules, termination diagrams and panel layouts in AutoCAD.

Design and integrate heating, temperature control and safety interlock systems for custom industrial equipment, including furnaces and ovens.

Select and size cables, switchgear and other electrical components.

Prepare equipment specifications, bills of materials and technical documentation.

Support PLC, HMI and SCADA integration and programming, depending on your experience.

What you'll bring

A degree in electrical engineering and the qualifications required to practise in Victoria.

Demonstrated Australian electrical design experience in industrial equipment or control systems. This is essential.

Experience with temperature control, combustion systems, industrial heating equipment or safety interlocks would be highly regarded.

Strong AutoCAD skills and experience designing industrial power and control systems.

Experience producing detailed drawings and documentation for equipment that is built and installed.

Working knowledge of AS/NZS 3000, AS/NZS 61439 and AS 4024, including electrical safety and control system interlocks.

The confidence to communicate directly with clients, workshop staff, installers and suppliers.

A practical approach to troubleshooting, a current driver's licence and a willingness to travel to client sites.

Experience with PLC, HMI or SCADA platforms such as Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Omron or Schneider will be highly regarded. Experience with custom machinery, packaged plant, process equipment or industrial automation would also be valuable.
