Job summary

Cement Australia invites applications for an Electrician apprenticeship in a coal mining context. You will train across workshop and plant environments, learning to install, maintain and repair electrical systems while developing fault-finding and safety skills.

As a first-year apprentice, you will join a team that supports you with education fees covered and necessary PPE. A strong emphasis on safety and teamwork drives your development and career growth.

Qualifications

  • Must have completed Year 11 with passes in Maths and English.
  • Prefer completion of Cert I or II Electrotechnology.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work in a team.

Responsibilities

  • Work on fixed plant and production equipment.
  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems and machinery.
  • Carry out preventive maintenance to keep systems reliable and safe.
  • Respond to breakdowns with fault-finding and problem-solving.
  • Read electrical diagrams and schematics to complete tasks.
  • Collaborate in toolbox meetings and risk assessments.
  • Work both independently and with a team while following safety standards.

Our Apprentices are an important part of our coal mining operations. We pride ourselves on developing you as a talented tradesperson both technically and professionally over the duration of your apprenticeship. Our program will not only prepare you to be a multi-skilled Electrician but also support you in nurturing those life skills that help you become a more well-rounded individual.

So, what does an Electrician at Cornwall Coal do? Over the duration of your apprenticeship, you will eventually be able to:

  • Work on a wide variety of fixed plant and production equipment
  • Gain exposure to both workshop and operational plant environments
  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems, machinery, and equipment
  • Carry out preventive maintenance to keep systems reliable and safe
  • Respond to breakdowns, applying strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
  • Read and interpret electrical diagrams and schematics to complete tasks effectively
  • Actively contribute to toolbox meetings and pre-start risk assessments
  • Work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Consistently follow safety standards, procedures, and best practices

What You'll Bring

About the Apprenticeship Program

  • Full time work for the duration of your apprenticeship, paid under an Enterprise Bargaining Agreement
  • As a first-year apprentice, you would commence the program around late January 2027
