Job summary

Fairfield Community Schools seeks an Educational Assistant: EL to support English Learner students at Fairfield Jr-Sr High School. You will collaborate with content-area teachers to implement the language assistance program and provide targeted support in regular classes.

The role is grant funded, involves 37.5 hours per week, and requires a high school diploma or GED, 18+ years of age, and completion of background checks.

• Must have sensitivity to the needs of Limited English Proficient students.
• Proficient in written and verbal English.

Responsibilities

• Provide support to EL students with regular classes outside of the core language assistance program through collaboration with the content-area teachers.
• Support students both individually and in groups as directed by the EL Coordinator and regular classroom teachers.
• Assist in fostering understanding and respect for a variety of cultural backgrounds.
• Observe classroom teacher's instruction and then supplement support for EL students in the classroom.
• Assist with pupil behavior under the direction of the certified teacher.
• Meet regularly with the EL Coordinator for training to ensure consistent teaching practices throughout the EL program.
• Demonstrate the ability to work harmoniously with all persons in the school and community.
• Participate in meetings as required.
• Promote a positive and professional image of the district at all times.
• Follow all rules, policies, procedures and guidelines of Fairfield Community Schools.
• Perform duties as assigned by the EL Coordinator and building principal.
• Support from the EL Education Assistant is in addition to ELD services provided by the licensed EL Coordinator/Teacher.
• Other duties as assigned by building principal and/or supervisor
