Job summary

Chisholm Institute of TAFE in Frankston, VIC, is seeking two Education Support Specialists for the Study Support Unit. The role focuses on designing educational support, delivering literacy, digital and study skills, and coordinating peer-supported learning across multiple campuses.

You will support students through intervention, resources, and targeted assistance to enhance engagement and course completion, while leading program delivery and staff development.

Chisholm is seeking two experienced Education Support Specialist to join our Student Support and Engagement team at Chisholm.

• Full-time 1.0 FTE, Fixed Term until 31 December 2028
• Full-time 1.0 FTE, Fixed Term until 31 December 2029

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Study Support Unit delivers educational support services that strengthen student engagement, participation, progression and successful course completion. The service complements accredited teaching and assessment by providing timely, practical and accessible non-accredited support that develops students' language, literacy, numeracy, digital capability, study skills and learning strategies.

The Education Support Specialist designs and delivers educational support that empowers students to develop the academic, digital, and learning capabilities required for educational success. The role supports students through academic and study skills development, assessment interpretation, digital literacy, assistive technology, AI-enabled study tools enabling them to build independence, overcome barriers to learning and engage confidently in their studies.

Support is delivered through individual consultations, workshops, peer-assisted learning, classroom-based educational support, and self-service resources. The role provides early intervention and targeted assistance for students at risk of disengagement, students with disability and additional learning needs, and students requiring additional support to participate successfully in education.

The Education Support Specialist also coordinates peer support and classroom-based educational support programs, including the recruitment, onboarding, training, quality monitoring, supervision and ongoing development of peer support workers and casual educational support staff. The role contributes to service planning, monitors student outcomes and service demand, and drives continuous improvement activities to ensure services remain responsive, accessible and aligned to student and organisational needs.

ABOUT YOU

Qualifications and skills required for the role -

You will have a relevant Degree qualification and experience in Education, Student Services, Disability, Social Sciences, Learning Support or a related discipline or lesser formal qualifications with extensive experience with management expertise; or equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education /training.

You are a highly motivated individual with -

• Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate a student support function or program, including planning, prioritisation and service delivery
• Demonstrated experience supporting students to develop academic literacy, study skills, digital capability and independent learning practices within an education or training environment
• Strong capability in service design, continuous improvement and developing scalable delivery models
• Proven ability to provide specialist advice and influence practice across teams, particularly in student success, LLND or support services
• Experience supervising, coaching or building capability in staff, peers or student-facing roles
• Advanced stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to negotiate and align outcomes across delivery and support areas
• Strong analytical skills, including the ability to interpret data, identify trends and use insights to inform service planning and decision making
• Demonstrated experience developing high-quality, accessible resources and content (e.g. checklists, templates, guides, workshops, digital materials) aligned to student needs
• High level communication skills, including the ability to present, influence and provide clear advice to a range of stakeholders
• Ability to operate with autonomy under broad direction, taking accountability for outcomes and continuous improvement
• Demonstrated experience delivering student-facing learning or study support in an education or training environment
• Strong understanding of language, literacy, numeracy and digital (LLND) support needs across diverse learner cohorts
• Proven ability to provide practical, task-based academic and digital support aligned to assessment requirements
• Demonstrated ability to apply inclusive, culturally safe and student-centred practice
