Job summary

Independent Schools NSW is seeking a skilled education professional for a two-year fixed-term contract to design, develop and deliver a long-term professional learning initiative, High Impact Teaching. This role supports K-12 schools with consulting, remote sessions, coaching and demonstrations across NSW and ACT.

The successful candidate will bring expertise in pedagogy, adult learning and curriculum guidance, with the ability to work across diverse school contexts and travel as required.

Qualifications

• Master’s qualifications will be viewed favourably.
• 6+ years’ experience in teaching and/or leadership in K-6 and/or 7-12 settings.
• Experience building professional relationships across diverse settings.

Job description

Independent Schools NSW is the peak body supporting and representing independent schools in NSW and provides a range of services across NSW and ACT.

Position Purpose

This is a two-year fixed-term contract with a focus on design, development and delivery of a long-term professional learning initiative, High Impact Teaching. This Independent Schools NSW initiative supports schools to implement high impact teaching strategies that align with educational neuroscience understandings of how the brain learns. This will include modes such as in-school consultancies, remote learning sessions, group presentations, conferences, demonstration lessons, instructional coaching, and more.

We invite applications for this role from K-12. Due to the nature of the role in supporting schools in the delivery of the High Impact Teaching initiative, we are seeking expertise, interest and passion in pedagogy first and foremost. The successful candidate will be able to work comfortably in a K-6, 7-12 or K-12 setting.

Other areas of focus for the role will be to respond to requests from schools for support and advice in relation to curriculum and pedagogy. This includes working collaboratively with schools across the state to implement new syllabus documents where appropriate, enhance existing teaching and learning practices and offer targeted guidance informed by curriculum, assessment and pedagogical expertise.

Key Accountabilities

• Design and deliver professional learning for the High Impact Teaching initiative, grounded in adult learning principles, to strengthen the capability of school leaders and teachers
• Deliver expert guidance, advice, and support to schools in interpreting and implementing the NSW K–12 syllabus, tailored to align with each school’s educational philosophy, organisational structure, and the specific needs of their students
• Develop and provide high-quality curriculum resources, frameworks, and tools to support schools in strengthening teaching and learning

What Experience are we looking for?

• Experience (6 years or more) and expertise in teaching and/or leadership in K-6 and/7-12 school settings.
• Experience in building and strengthening professional relationships in diverse settings.

What Knowledge/Skills are we looking for?

• Strong consulting and advisory skills, with the ability to quickly build rapport
• Strong understanding of current educational research related to teaching and learning instructional practices
• Curious mindset to ask insightful questions and synthesise complex information into clear, practical advice

• Confidence and capability in facilitating professional learning for adult learners across a variety of delivery modes
• Demonstrated ability to deliver classroom demonstration lessons
• Excellent oral and written communication skills

• Proven ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a dynamic team.
• A valid NSW Working with Children Check Clearance (not essential but preferred)
• A current NSW Driver’s Licence
• Capacity to travel across metropolitan Sydney and beyond, including across NSW into regional areas, which involves being away overnight, at times for consecutive nights.
• Understanding of the NSW independent school sector and the role of Independent Schools NSW as a peak body and member-based service organisation.
