Job summary

The Editorial Manager at NSW Health, Westmead, is responsible for editing, proofreading and publishing technical documents and digital content for NCIRS initiatives, including support for the Australian Immunisation Handbook. You will manage content across NCIRS websites, creating, editing and publishing content and liaising with external stakeholders to troubleshoot sites.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Journalism, English or Publishing with health/research experience desirable.
• Experience in professional editorial work across outputs and channels.
• Experience managing editorial/publishing teams and contractors.
• Experience editing research content with researchers and academics to refine and publish content.
• Knowledge of Commonwealth Style Manual and style guides.
• Strong organisational, planning and delivery skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and stakeholder relationship skills.
• Advanced skills in Word, Adobe Acrobat and EndNote.

What you'll be doing

The Editorial Manager is primarily responsible for managing the editing, proofing and publishing of technical documents and digital content for NCIRS and its various initiatives, including providing editorial support to the Australian Immunisation Handbook. https://immunisationhandbook.health.gov.au/ The Editorial Manager is part of the NCIRS Communications Team and is also responsible for the management of content across NCIRS websites, including creating new content, editing and proofreading content, updating existing content and publishing content, including contributing to website improvements and liaising with external stakeholders to troubleshoot websites issues. This position is responsible for collaborating with key internal and external stakeholders to ensure complex technical content is translated into engaging and accessible content to reach target audiences. The Editorial Manager will work closely with all NCIRS program areas to ensure NCIRS outputs, including resources, reports and documentation, are edited and at the highest standard.

The National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance (NCIRS) is the leading organisation in Australia in immunisation and vaccines that provides expert advice to support evidence-informed immunisation policy and guideline development, evaluation of immunisation programs, particularly the National Immunisation Program, and the monitoring of vaccine-preventable diseases, vaccine coverage and factors impacting uptake, and vaccine safety. NCIRS has national and international recognition in this arena and has a growing program of international work, focused on providing technical support for immunisation system strengthening to countries in the Indo-Pacific region. NCIRS is a collaborative team of experts in public health, biostatistics, infectious diseases, paediatrics, internal medicine, epidemiology, communication, social science and quantitative and qualitative research and survey methods. www.ncirs.org.au The Centre is based within the Division of Research of the Sydney Children's Hospitals Network, Westmead Campus, NSW, Australia, but has an all-age research remit and is affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health and the Sydney Institute for Infectious Diseases (Sydney ID) at the University of Sydney. NCIRS is funded primarily by the Australian Government and NSW Government, as well as via grants from WHO, Gavi, and research granting bodies.

Requirements & Responsibilities

• Tertiary qualification in Journalism, English or Publishing, or related field with experience in health, academic or research desirable.
• Demonstrated professional editorial experience (e.g. structural editing, copy editing and proofreading) in working on a range of different outputs and communication channels and meticulous attention to detail.
• Experience managing editorial/publishing teams and contractors.
• Experience working with research, educational or academic content written by subject matter experts with proven ability to work closely with researchers and academics to refine and publish content.
• Knowledge of Commonwealth Style Manual and experience in using style guides.
• Ability to set priorities and monitor workflows and systems with the area of responsibility, including excellent organisational skills in planning, project management and delivery of high-quality outputs.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, and demonstrated ability to establish and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat and reference management software (e.g. EndNote)
