Job summary

Thiess Mount Pleasant is seeking a Drill & Blast Engineer to join our open cut mining team in Australia. You will design and load drill patterns, develop weekly schedules and coordinate explosives ordering to support the mine plan, working closely with the planning group to maximise coal flow and fragmentation.

Reporting to the Technical Services Manager, you will promote safe work practices, mentor crew, and pursue continuous improvement of drill and blast processes onsite.

Qualifications

• Relevant tertiary qualification in Mining or Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
• Minimum 2 years’ site experience in an operational mining engineering role (open cut preferred).
• Ability to learn and convey information to the drill and blast crew.
• Experience with Blast Logic, Vulcan or similar software.
• Ability to collaborate within a small team and uphold safety standards.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Design and loading of drill and blast designs to maximise fragmentation.
• Produce weekly drill and blast schedules.
• Oversee explosives ordering.
• Conduct blast reconciliations and report results.
• Collaborate with mine planning to support the mine plan and coal flow.
• Promote safe work practices and continuous improvement of processes.
• Build strong working relationships with drill and blast crew.
