This is an exciting opportunity to bring stories, characters and ideas to life for students in Years 7–10. Through engaging classroom experiences and practical performance opportunities, you will encourage students to take creative risks, develop their dramatic skills and discover the confidence to express themselves.

Whether you are an experienced educator or an emerging teacher with strong potential, you will be welcomed into a knowledgeable, enthusiastic and collaborative team committed to outstanding teaching and learning.

Teaching at CGS extends beyond the classroom. Our teachers know their students as individuals, contribute to pastoral care through the Student House system and participate in the broader co-curricular and community life of the School. The position therefore includes teaching, pastoral and co-curricular responsibilities, with some out-of-hours commitments across the School calendar.

About You

  • The ability to create an inclusive and supportive environment in which students feel confident to perform, experiment and grow
  • Effective use of assessment, feedback and student data to advance learning
  • A genuine commitment to pastoral care, co-curricular engagement and the broader life of the School
  • Excellent written and spoken English, strong interpersonal skills and confidence using technology to support learning.
Desirable Experience
  • Experience with the IB Middle Years Programme or other recognised curriculum pathways
  • Experience contributing to productions, performances, festivals or other co-curricular Performing Arts activities
  • Experience supporting enrichment, competition or extension opportunities
  • Postgraduate qualifications or further study in Drama, Performing Arts or education

We are looking for someone who demonstrates:

  • A genuine passion for Drama and the ability to inspire that passion in students
  • Creativity, energy and a willingness to bring fresh ideas to the classroom
  • Dedication to the wellbeing, formation and growth of every young person
  • A commitment to inclusive excellence and a belief that every student can develop and succeed
  • High professional standards, sound judgement and a collaborative, reflective approach.
All teachers at CGS are required to hold
  • a relevant tertiary degree and recognised teaching qualification
  • current ACT Teacher Quality Institute registration and a valid WWVP
  • a current National Police Check and full working rights in Australia
  • a current First Aid Certificate.
Benefits For You
  • A highly competitive salary
  • Staff recognition awards and generous professional development funding
  • Attractive salary packaging arrangements
  • Complimentary daily barista-made coffee
  • Delicious daily morning tea and discounted lunches
  • Access to our onsite health clinic and annual influenza vaccinations
  • Confidential, 24/7 access to our Employee Assistance Program
  • Convenient onsite parking.
Working at CGS

At Canberra Grammar School, teachers are trusted as professionals, supported to grow and encouraged to bring ambition, creativity and fresh thinking to their practice.

You will join a diverse and forward-thinking educational community where academic excellence, creativity and student wellbeing are equally valued. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with passionate colleagues, contribute to the vibrant life of the School and help students discover the confidence and joy that come from performance.
