Job summary

Mlakar Fabrication is seeking a skilled Draftsman / Engineer to join our stainless steel engineering team in Brisbane. You will produce fabrication-ready 2D and 3D drawings, take site measurements, and collaborate with clients and fabrication staff to ensure designs meet manufacturing constraints.

You should have at least 3 years drafting experience and proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD Inventor preferred).

Qualifications

Mlakar Fabrication is a specialist stainless steel engineering company delivering high-quality equipment, process piping and turnkey projects for Australia's food and beverage industry.

As a talented Draftsman / Engineer you'll work across diverse projects from bespoke stainless steel machinery to structural steel, architectural and balustrade projects. You will collaborate directly with clients, engineers, project managers and fabricators, combining technical drafting expertise with practical manufacturing knowledge to create solutions that work in the real world. Key responsibilities

• Take site measurements and attend client meetings to assess their requirements.
• Convert design concepts and sketches into comprehensive engineering drawings suitable for fabrication and manufacturing.
• Collaborate with senior staff, clients, and fabrication team to ensure design accuracy and feasibility.
• Produce detailed technical drawings and specifications using CAD software in accordance with industry standards and client requirements. In particular:
• Stainless steel products and machinery for the food and beverage industry.
• Structural, architectural and balustrade/handrail projects.
• Review and revise drawings based on feedback from project managers, engineers, and clients.
• Maintain accurate documentation of all design modifications and updates throughout the project lifecycle.
• Ensure all drawings comply with relevant engineering codes, standards, and regulations.
• Support the estimation and costing processes by providing accurate material and labour assessments from drawings and provide procurement and/or parts and material lists.

What we're looking for

• Minimum 3 years drafting experience.
• Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD Inventor preferred, but other relevant programs acceptable).
• Knowledge of sanitary design standards.
• Strong understanding of engineering principles, drawing standards, and technical specifications.
• Experience in producing 2D and 3D technical drawings and construction documentation.
• Knowledge of fabrication processes and manufacturing constraints.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy with the ability to identify and rectify design issues.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to liaise effectively with team members and clients.
• Ability to work independently whilst collaborating within a team environment.
• Problem-solving mindset with the capacity to adapt to project requirements.
• Familiarity with structural steel, welding, or metalwork fabrication would be advantageous.
