Job summary

Melba Support Services in Victoria is seeking a part-time Disability Support Worker to assist people with disability to live meaningful, self-directed lives across SIL, ISA, and other supports. You’ll deliver personalised care, promote independence, and work within a values-driven team under The Melba Way.

You don’t need prior disability experience; the role emphasizes dignity, respect, and person-led practice.

Qualifications

• Certificate IV in Disability or Diploma in Community Services is preferred.
• Previous disability or aged care experience is highly regarded but not essential.
• Commitment to human rights, inclusion and person-led practice.

About the Role

As a Disability Support Worker, you'll support people with disability to live meaningful, self-directed lives. Working across a range of services and environments, you'll provide personalised support that promotes independence, choice and control while helping people achieve their goals, build skills and participate in the things that matter most to them. Our Disability Support Workers may work within one or across multiple service environments, including Supported Independent Living (SIL), Individualised Support Arrangements (ISA), Community Participation programs, Short Term Accommodation (STA), and other community-based supports.

What You'll Be Doing

In this role, you'll provide support that is tailored to each person's goals, preferences and support needs.

• Support people to build independence, confidence and life skills
• Assist people to participate in community, recreational, educational and employment-related activities
• Provide practical day-to-day support, including personal care and daily living assistance where required
• Support health and wellbeing, including medication assistance where required and authorised
• Build positive relationships with people supported, families and support networks
• Maintain accurate documentation and records
• Work collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders to deliver safe, high-quality, person-led support

What Makes a Great Disability Support Worker?

You don't need previous disability experience to make a difference. We're looking for people who genuinely care about supporting others and share our commitment to human rights, inclusion and person-led practice.

You will bring:

• Strong relationship-building skills
• Reliability, flexibility and a positive attitude
• The ability to work independently and as part of a teamConfidence following support plans, policies and procedures
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• A willingness to learn and grow
• A certificate IV in Disability, Diploma of Community Services or equivalent qualification (highly regarded but not mandatory)

Previous experience in disability, aged care, community services or support work is highly regarded, but not essential. Most importantly, you'll bring a genuine desire to support people to live the life they choose.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you'll need:

• Current First Aid and CPR Certification, or willingness to obtain
• Current NDIS Worker Screening Check
• Current Working with Children Check
• A current Australian Driver Licence
• Availability to work a range of shifts, including weekends and active nights where required
• Successful completion of pre-employment screening, mandatory training and ongoing compliance requirements
