Job summary

Origin Support Services Pty Ltd in Brisbane, QLD, is seeking a compassionate Disability Support Worker for a casual, 1:1 SIL setting. You will assist with daily living, community access, and goal achievement while promoting independence and dignity.

The role requires flexibility for nights, weekends, and shifts, with on-the-job training and opportunities for progression to permanent positions. Strong communication and person-centered care are essential.

Qualifications

  • Prefer Female applicant only.
  • NDIS Worker Screening Clearance (Yellow Card) or willingness to obtain one.
  • Blue Card (Working with Children Check) or willingness to obtain one.
  • Current driver’s licence.
  • Own reliable vehicle with appropriate insurance for transporting participants.
  • PEG trained and/or experienced.
  • Suction trained and/or experienced, including dysphagia support.
  • Manual handling trained and/or experienced.
  • Strong understanding of person-centred and trauma-informed support practices.
  • Ability to stay calm, patient and resilient with complex behaviours.
  • Full working rights in Australia.
  • Weekend and overnight shifts availability.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 support in a SIL setting and assist with daily living activities.
  • Build positive, professional relationships with the participant.
  • Support attendance at appointments and community outings.
  • Assist with community access including shopping and recreation.
  • Complete household tasks: cleaning, laundry, meal prep.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized home environment.
  • Complete accurate shift notes and incident reports.
  • Support the participant to achieve goals in their NDIS plan.
  • Provide support during active night shifts to ensure safety.

Origin Support Services Pty Ltd is seeking a compassionate, resilient, and reliable Female Disability Support Worker to join our growing team in Brisbane, QLD.

At Origin Support Services, we provide person-centred, individualised support to people living with disabilities. Our services include:

  • Community Access
  • Supported Independent Living (SIL)

This opportunity is for a casual position supporting a participant in a 1:1 Supported Independent Living (SIL) environment. The successful candidate must have good availability, including active night shifts, weekends, and flexible hours, with the opportunity to progress into a permanent position for the right person.

Experience is preferred but not essential. We provide comprehensive on-the-job training along with access to a range of Origin Support Services resources and professional development opportunities.

About the Opportunity

As a Disability Support Worker, you will provide high-quality, person-centred support to a participant in a 1:1 SIL setting, assisting them both at home and within the community while promoting independence, dignity, choice, and control.

Reporting to the Service Delivery Manager, your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing 1:1 support in a Supported Independent Living (SIL) environment.
  • Assisting with daily living activities and personal support.
  • Building positive, professional relationships with the participant.
  • Supporting attendance at appointments and community outings.
  • Assisting with community access, including shopping and recreational activities.
  • Completing household tasks such as cleaning, laundry, and meal preparation.
  • Maintaining a safe, clean, and organised home environment.
  • Completing accurate shift notes and incident reports.
  • Supporting the participant to achieve the goals outlined in their NDIS plan.
  • Providing support during active night shifts, remaining awake and responsive throughout the shift to ensure participant safety and wellbeing.
About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Prefer Female applicant only
  • Yellow Card (NDIS Worker Screening Clearance) or willingness to obtain one.
  • Blue Card (Working with Children Check) or willingness to obtain one.
  • Current driver's licence.
  • Your own reliable vehicle with comprehensive or third-party property insurance suitable for transporting participants.Clear English speaking and communication skills.
  • PEG trained and/or experienced.
  • Suction trained and/or experienced, including experience supporting participants with dysphagia.
  • Manual handling trained and/or experienced.
  • Strong understanding of person-centered and trauma informed support practices.
  • Ability to remain calm, patient, and resilient while supporting participants with complex behaviours and emotional regulation needs.
  • Full working rights within Australia.
  • Availability to work weekends, flexible shifts, and active overnight shifts when required.
Desirable (but not essential)
  • Certificate III or higher in Individual Support, Community Services, or a related qualification.
  • Experience supporting participants with complex or high-intensity needs.
  • Expereince implementing Positive Behaviour Support strategies and Behaviour Support Plans.
  • Previous experience in disability support or a similar role.
  • Strong English communication skills and ability to build rapport with participants.
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are encouraged to apply.
