Job summary

Discover Nursing Australia is seeking a compassionate Disability Support Worker to join a stable team supporting a young woman with complex physical disabilities at Harrington Park, NSW. You will deliver person‑centred care in the family home, focusing on dignity, trust and meaningful engagement.

You will work with a multidisciplinary team to implement care plans, monitor health needs and support community participation while upholding high clinical standards.

Qualifications

  • Certificate III or IV in Disability, Aged Care, Nursing or a related qualification.
  • Current NDIS Worker Screening Check.
  • Current National Police Check.
  • Current First Aid Certificate.
  • Current CPR Certificate.
  • NDIS Worker Orientation Module completed.
  • Current Australian Driver Licence.
  • Reliable, comprehensively insured vehicle.
  • ABN holder or willing to obtain one.
  • Australian working rights.

Responsibilities

  • Provide personal care, showering, dressing and grooming.
  • Support continence, meals and assisted feeding.
  • Safe manual handling and transfers (including 2:1 supports).
  • Positioning and pressure care.
  • Domestic assistance and meal prep.
  • Community access and social participation.
  • Monitor seizure activity and report concerns.

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Disability Support Worker to join a dedicated long‑term support team assisting a young woman with complex physical disabilities living in Harrington Park, NSW.

This is an opportunity to become part of a stable, collaborative team supporting one participant with highly specialised care needs in her family home.

About the Participant

The participant is a young woman living with:

  • Cerebral Palsy (GMFCS Level 5).
  • Epilepsy (absence seizures).
  • Non‑verbal communication.
  • Significant spasticity and joint contractures.
  • Complex physical support needs.
  • Full dependence for all activities of daily living.

She communicates through eye gaze, facial expressions and vocalisations, and enjoys music, singing, sensory activities, spending time in the community, and calm, reassuring interactions. Building trust, consistency and a genuine connection is essential to this role.

About the Role

You will work as part of a skilled support team delivering high‑quality, person‑centred supports, including:

  • Personal care, showering, dressing and grooming.
  • Continence support.
  • Meal preparation and assisted feeding.
  • Safe manual handling and transfers (including 2:1 supports where required).
  • Positioning and pressure care.
  • Domestic assistance.
  • Community access and social participation.
  • Monitoring seizure activity and reporting concerns.
  • Implementing allied health programs and therapy recommendations.
  • Supporting communication through eye gaze and non‑verbal cues.
  • Providing emotional reassurance and meaningful engagement.
  • Working collaboratively with the participant's family and clinical team.
Essential Experience

Applicants must demonstrate experience supporting participants with complex physical disabilities, including:

  • Cerebral Palsy or similar neurological conditions.
  • Complex personal care.
  • Manual handling and transfers.
  • Non‑verbal communication.
  • Epilepsy or seizure management.
  • Dysphagia or mealtime assistance.
  • Pressure care and positioning.
  • Community participation supports.
  • Working within multidisciplinary care plans.
  • Experience providing 2:1 supports is highly desirable.

Highly Regarded

The following experience will be highly regarded:

  • Supporting participants with Cerebral Palsy (GMFCS Level 5).

  • Pressure injury prevention.
  • Complex manual handling.
  • Hoist and transfer equipment.
  • Following Occupational Therapy, Speech Pathology and Physiotherapy programs.
  • Supporting participants using eye gaze and other non‑verbal communication methods.
