  • Unrestricted driver's licence and access to a vehicle.

Responsibilities

  • Provide respectful in-home and community-based support.
  • Follow the participant's Behaviour Support Plan and care plans.
  • Recognise triggers and use de-escalation strategies.
  • Assist with daily routines and non-preferred activities.
  • Administer medication per policies, including psychotropic meds.
  • Maintain progress notes, medication records and incident reports.
  • Collaborate with family and broader support team.
  • Uphold safety, dignity and independence; follow policies and guidelines.

About the Role

ACCORD CARE is seeking experienced and confident Disability Support Workers to provide consistent, person-centred in-home support to a participant living in Petrie, QLD.

The participant requires structured support due to autism, intellectual disability, anxiety, and communication difficulties. We are looking for calm, reliable support workers who can build trust, follow established care plans, and respond safely and professionally to behaviours of concern.

Initially, shifts will be available every Wednesday and Thursday from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. There may be opportunities for additional hours once the participant transitions into Supported Independent Living.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide respectful in-home and community-based support.
  • Follow the participant's Behaviour Support Plan and other care plans.
  • Recognise known triggers and use proactive de-escalation strategies.
  • Support the participant with daily routines and non-preferred activities.
  • Administer medication, including psychotropic medication, in accordance with relevant policies and procedures.
  • Respond safely and appropriately to behaviours of concern.
  • Maintain accurate progress notes, medication records, and incident reports.
  • Work collaboratively with the participant's family and broader support team.
  • Promote the participant's safety, choice, dignity, and independence.
  • Follow organisational policies, NDIS requirements, and restrictive-practice protocols.
About You

You will be calm, patient, physically capable, and confident when supporting someone with high and complex needs. Clear spoken English and strong communication skills are essential due to the participant's communication challenges.

You will also have:

  • A minimum Certificate III in Individual Support, Disability, Mental Health, or another relevant qualification.
  • Experience supporting people with autism, intellectual disability, or complex mental health needs.
  • Experience responding to behaviours of concern and challenging situations.
  • Knowledge of positive behaviour support and restrictive practices.
  • Experience following Behaviour Support Plans and other care plans.
  • Experience administering medication, including psychotropic medication.
  • An unrestricted driver's licence and reliable access to a suitable vehicle.
  • A current NDIS Worker Screening Check.
  • A current Working with Children Check, where required.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certificates.
  • The physical capacity to safely perform the inherent requirements of the role.
  • The ability to maintain professional boundaries and provide consistent support.
